Mao Zedong had many idea for china. But first he had to change china a bit and these changes were the Revolutionary Goals. His first goal was to make life better for the poor. He achieved this goal by making collective farms, which didn't end up succeeding. But the farms meant everyone worked the same and everyone earned the same. They each received equal bits of food.

Mao's second goal was to begin development for a modern economy. Mao's plan to achieve this didn't work. China didn't have the correct technology to industrialize quickly. China's isolation didn't help the issues either.

Finally, Mao's third goal was to restore China as one of the worlds leading powers. In order to get themselves (China) back in check then they'd have to rebuild their economy. In order to achieve this goal, China had to destroy the old class system.

China had to make more food, other wise their economy would suffer. But when they did try, their economy suffered even further. China created Collective Farms. These farms were controlled and directed by the government. Each worker was guaranteed shelter and food. But this didn't encourage the people, it made them work less. If they knew they would get something, it didn't matter if they worked. Collective farms didn't do much for China.

The Great Leap Forward

The great leap forward was when Mao Zedong divided china into communes. These communes were government officials and the wealthy. The people in the communes controlled the farms and the peasants lives. The people in the communes assigned the workers jobs and supplied them with clothes, food, water, housing, school, child care, and some recreational activities. This mobilized all of the workers.
