This lab simulated the real world climate change issue. How heat rays from the sun get trapped in the atmosphere causing a worldwide temperature increase. During this climate change unit we also covered the different types of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous, and water vapor. During this unit I really expanded as a learner, studying climate change and growing my mind to new concepts.

Our energy unit in science focused on the fascinating solar panels and how they get their energy. Solar panels receive their energy from sun photons that hit the solar panel. The top of the solar panel is called the N-type, meaning it only takes negatively charged photons. And the bottom P-type, meaning it only collects positively charged photons. Then, they are transferred through an aluminum strip to a battery where it can be charged. These batteries can be used to power houses, and even cars! Learning about how solar panels can be used for safe clean energy rather than non-renewable energy is mind blowing! As a learner who didn't know much about solar panels, and clean energy was astounded by this. Not only did I learn how solar panels work, I also learned how myself. A student can make a change in the world by using clean safe energy.

The solar powered car unit was the perfect place for students to show their creativity. We were given a car kit with solar panels, and were tasked to build a car that would run of solar energy. Me and my group members decided to build the more advanced car. We had so much fun designing this car and testing its speed. Everyday a new record was broken with smiles, ready to break more. At last, we had to make a group lab report to show our process.

This was a quick unit but we learned so many new fascinating things. At the end of the unit we had a unit test on motion, and I believe it was a growth point for me as a learner, trying new things and new concepts.

Our ethics unit was a very empowering unit all about the ethics behind science. Many people may not think about ethics when science is mentioned but it plays such a big role. During our ethics unit we focused on the tusgekee experiment. The tusgekee experiment was an experiment conducted on 600 black men to further study the syphilis virus. After researchers found a cure, these African American men were not provided with the cure causing them to die. This experiment caught the wide eye of the public due to its unethical injustice. The story of the tusgekee experiment is very moving and unfortunate.

As a learner through ethics and science I feel like my mind has opened to the wider range of science, rather than JUST the science. Learning about the big role of ethics and science was very inspiring knowing that anyone can be a scientist.

7th grade science was a hard year for me. I didn't fully understand key concepts, and did poorly on my tests. But over the past year I've learned to overcome these challenges and excel as student. 8th grade science has not only taught me science, but its changed my mind about all of science. The wide range of topics is so fascinating, learning about new things every day. Walking into science used to make me anxious, but now it makes me anxious for whats next. My joy only fills larger everyday walking into science ready for what to come. I get inspiration watching my classmates grow as learners, and taking challenges. My 8th grade year in science was amazing, all I wonder now is how much stronger as a learner I will be in High School.
