My full is Karime Martínez López.

When I was younger I didn't like Karime, I didn't like how it sounded. I used to wish my name was Zoe, Michelle or Diane. One day my parents told me they almost gave me two names: Karime Fernanda. So after that, for a long time, I wished they had also named me Fernanda.

Nonetheless, nowadays I do like Karime. In fact I like it very much. My last names are really common in Mexico so I like having a name that is not often heard. Now I think that my name sounds kind of elegant, and because many people had told me that I'm the only person they know with that name, I'd like to think its memorable too.

Karime means graceful (agraciada), so I really like the meaning as well. When people become close to me, I'd rather have them call me Kari; and when someone new calls me by that I instantly feel like we became closer to each other.

No one else in my family is called Karime, my parents just liked the name, but I'm grateful to have been named lilke that.

I think stereotypes are always present in our life. Of course we shouldn't label people according to our experiencies or beliefs but it's hard not to.

I'm fully aware that every person is different and the deserves the chance to show who they are by their actions and words and not by their gender, race or religion.

Nonetheless, I believe that not having a behavior guided by stereotypes doesn't mean that we believe in them. There is a difference between the way in which we treat people and the way we look at them.

I think what is helps the most is having an open mind with a welcoming heart.

"Once you label me you negate me."

-Soren Kierkegaard

My Way from Frank Sinatra is a song about a man that talks about his life, the good and the bad things, the regrets and the successes.

This song is really special to me because it is one of my dad's favorite songs and he always likes to play it when we're in the car.

Even though I'd like to believe that there are a lot of things still ahead of me, I would like to hear this song and see my life reflected on it.

"I've lived a life that's full
I traveled each and every highway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way"

"Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention"

"I faced it all, and I stood tall
And did it my way"

These are some fragments of the song that have a really deep meaning to me. I like them because Frank Sinatra doesn't talk about having a perfect life, or one that is full with smiles and triumphs, he just talks about living a life and everything it entails in his own way.

We used to go eat every Friday some tacos that were really near from the house. I don't think it had a truly deep meaning, we just really enjoyed it.

I used to do taekwondo so my mom and I would go after the training to order some tacos and then bring them home. My dad used to work for a very long time in cmdx. Every Friday he would drive to Queretaro to spend the weekend with us, so we would wait for him to get home and then we would all eat tacos together and then watch some tv programs.

I've always liked those tacos, nowadays they are really famous, however when we started buying from them, they were just a small stand.

Some Fridays I still go to the new restaurant, however now I only go with my dad. Sometimes I miss those years.

I went to Montreal in my exchange program. The day after we arrived was July 1st, the Canadian Day, so we were able celebrate with the local people and immerse us a little bit more in their culture in only a few days.

I learned that Canada was first visited by Vikings from Iceland a thousand years ago. Then an explorer John Cabot (had to search his name) traveled across the ocean to the territory and spent years mapping the East of Canada.

July 1st is the day when Canada became a self-governing territory. Before this day was known as the Dominion Day.

I don't think this is a myth but I think these events have a really big influence in the identity of all canadian people, as well as in their sense of nationalism.

It took place on October 2, in 1968. In an attempt of reppresing the sutdent movement which fought for freedom of expression, as well as freedom of peaceful social protest and legality, the government ended up killing around 350 victims, mostly students.

This massacre has become a symbol of government repression and raised awareness of human rights in Mexico. It also caused a lot of mistrust towards the government. This still influences the relationship between state and society.

I think that multiculturalism is something that is always present in our daily lives. Since globalization, learning about other cultures and lifestyles has become easier.

My personal opinion is that we should embrace, I don't think we can control it so it is really important to be tolerant and empathic with everyone, while always trying to not fall into prejudices. People who want to restrict it, are the ones who usually end up taking drastic, violent measures.

On the other hand, I already think that a multicultural society is the norm, wether we accept it or not the combination of cultures has already taken place.

I don't think this is either good or bad, the only thing I would do is remember that we all have rights and treat each person respectfully.

When I think about my home I feel comfortable. Even though I think it should be a place of happiness I couldn't englobe the word "home" with that emotion. I think it is more accurate comfortable, since whether we are having a good or a bad day it should be somewhere we can go and feel secure.

On the other hand, i wouldn't describe a home as only a place. I think that sometimes you find people who you can also call home. When I grow up I want to have my own family and know that regardless of where we live we all will always have a home because we will be together.

Multiculturalism in Queretaro

I think Queretaro is a city that allows multiculturalism to take place, even though it doesn't promote it. I know and I have seen some people, (when walking on the streets or at the mall) who look like they have different roots.

In my opinion, the more touristic a city is, the more it attracts people from all over the world. Therefore, I would say (I'm not sure) that Mexico City, Monterrey or Quintana Roo are states with more multiculturalism. Nonetheless, I think Queretaro is a safe city where people with different nationalities can live in.

On another hand, I think PrepaTec is a school that does promote this value. First of all because it is a institution where you can go visit other countries and people from other parts of the world can stay. We even have a multicultural program, where they not only teach us about different cultures but the values on which we should base our behavior.

The one that he had was kind of improvised so I would like to make it resisten and with different models so the kids could choose.

I would like for the children to have fun with something that is simple and yet it can be so entertaining.
