We have to constantly reflect, ask questions, and identify areas where actions are needed.

I also liked the part about our dreams being kept alive through collaboration. Without collaboration, it would be hard to continue reflecting, asking questions, and identifying areas where action is necessary.

“Teachers lead within and beyond the classroom.” Often times, if we are assigned a novice teacher, we feel as if we should be changing or focusing on the physical teacher become a better teacher, but I feel when we help the teacher help the STUDENTS become more academically motivated and sound.. we have indeed helped a teacher. Teachers become better leaders when they see student achievement and the impact it has on other teachers.

How do you choose the BEST leadership model that fits a particular team when the morale and culture is at an all time low? Or when you haven’t effectively built the relationships needed?

beyond the classroom"....this really spoke to me. Leadership goes far beyond academics within the classroom. True leadership abounds into all aspects within the school building and into the community.

I connect most with the image of a teacher leader as someone who is 'action-oriented and reflective.' I often find myself reflecting on how I can grow while encouraging my peers to try new ideas together.

A push for me is the idea of translating whole-school improvement.

Teacher leaders are reawakened by professional culture, are reflective and action-driven, and are deeply committed to student learning and personal responsibility.

Teacher leaders serve in multiple roles:

1. Broker: translating improvement into practice

2. Participant: engaging in collaboration

3. Mediator: sharing expertise

4. Learner: growing alongside peers

One phrase: forge close relationships (Day and Harris 2003)

A key takeaway from the reading is that teacher leaders have to skillful at managing people, a master of their craft and adaptable to meet goals.

I love how it describes teacher leaders as those who position themselves to be resources for others by engaging, learning, mediating, and initiating action.
