It is always a good idea to start your story by putting everything into context, say when the story took place, "paint" a picture in the listener's brain by providing detail. Talk about when things happened, where they happened, and probably why.

Use quotes to report, that is direct speech. Reported speech may also work, however, it's a lot more common to hear direct speech in casual conversations.

Another phrase you can use to report what people said, or what you said, in a very informal way is "I was like, he is like, he was like".

It's important to include in the story the narration of key events (the beginning of something, a turning point, when you met someone) focusing on the little details, notice how he mentions the caliber of what he was about to experience and how naive he was about it using the opening of the door as the moment when it all started. It's also good to use emphatic language, such as "one of the absolute worst..." This always helps to build suspense and expectation, it is like one of those slow-motion flashbacks we always see in movies.

When you report incudes details about how people said what they said. This will help the listener understand or "visualize" how things were said. You can also change teh intention and pace of your words while telling the story to make them fit the description, this will boost the effect, in the video, he used the adverb "hurriedly" (adverbs normally describe actions, they indicate how things happened), and since he used this word, he spoke hurriedly and even acted the dialog a little bit with body language.

A cliff-hanger is built providing information about the nature of an event, in David's story, the fact that the woman to him seemed to be sadomasochistic or unintelligent is a result of what she said, notice the strength of the two adjectives (sadomasochistic and unintelligent). In order to build suspense, he first mentioned the effects on him of what she said, what he thought about what she said nut not saying what it was, making the listeners want to hear what it was that she said, this is the lauch of a cliff-hanger in this case, he didin't reveal what she said as part of his exapmple, however in any anectdote, we can reveal later what was said or done later, of course, we must make sure that what we reveal is worth hearing. Your voice and pace can also contribute to this, you can emphasize the words more and act them a little bit using body language to convey more suspense.

Speaking tends to be more flexible when it comes to grammar rules, up to an extent, still we need to be careful that we respect the general structures of different tenses, however it is possible to change some sounds, eliminate some words or even change their order sometimes. WRITING on the other hand tends to be more rigid when it comes to GRAMMAR due to the fact that writing is like "storing our voices" or "freezing" them. When we write, we write for posterity, that's why we need to make sure that what we write is grammatically correct.

There is nothing wrong with using Spanish, it is our native language, however, if you typically struggle completing grammar exercises for example and a friend of yours does it quickly and correctly, that doesn't mean they are more intelligent, that means they have exposed themselves to movies, videos, audios, books, stories in English for longer than you have. It is necessary to start exposing ourselves, like children when they watch the same movie over and over again, they are acquiring language without noticing, as a result of the exposure.
