In order to build suspense, he first mentioned the effects on him of what she said, what he thought about what she said nut not saying what it was, making the listeners want to hear what it was that she said, this is the lauch of a cliff-hanger in this case, he didin't reveal what she said as part of his exapmple, however in any anectdote, we can reveal later what was said or done later, of course, we must make sure that what we reveal is worth hearing.
