In this lesson, we had to create an empathy map highlighting an issue that was being faced by one of the peers in our class. We had to do this to better understand our peers and the problems that they can face in highschools. We also came up with solutions to the problem to try to solve it.

Charlotte's problem was that she was finding it hard to study for her exams. So I had to find the:

Needs of Charlotte: To make a fixed time to study for exams and be more organised, A good revision schedule and to stop procrastination.

What Charlotte Thinks/Feels/Says: Feeling like there’s too much to study

What Charlotte is influenced by: Distractions like your phone and people around you.

What she does: Doesn’t study and Procrastinates

After the mindmap, we had to come up with some solutions of the problem that our peer had faced. These ideas would be suggestions to help them tackle the problem they're facing.

My ideas were:

Make a to-do list somewhere where you can be easily reminded of when to study or do an assignment

Removing distractions such as phones. You can do this easily by putting it aside or giving it to your parent and keeping it somewhere away from you.

Prioritise the important stuff. You could do the stuff that needs to be done immediately first and do the other stuff on another day.

Taking breaks is essential. If you don't take breaks your focus will slowly decrease. So take breaks and go out for walks, do things without your phone all the time.

Create days about what you are going to study each day. Each day, do a different subject. For example, Maths on Monday, Biology on Tuesday, etc.

Doing this, you would find it hard to make time for yourself because of all the time you will be spending on studying for your exams. You'll lose your free time and won't be able to hang out with your friends as often. Although those are strong arguments, you will be able to stop procrastinating, be prepared more for your exams, and get better grades.

In this lesson we had to create something to help our peer with the problem they were facing. My idea was to make an app that would help with being organised with study patterns for your exams. It would also have a website version, so you can access it from anywhere you want.

The app will include:

An AI system: This AI feature will only give you points of information instead of full essays to make sure you don't plagiarise and allows you to find out the meaning of each word written.

Study timer: These study timers will make sure that you have breaks and will remind you to have a break after each 50-60 minutes.

A to-do list for each day: It will give you a choice to add things to the to-do list for everyday and remind you to do them. You will be able to make the thing off once you've done it.

Study playlist creator: It does this by taking you spotify/apple music/other music streaming services and creates a study specific playlist based on the songs you listen to.

Explains assignments: Sometimes when you don't understand an assignment, you can put it in the system and the app will explain all of it for you.

A calendar: It provides a calendar to keep track of important dates not just related to school, but every single thing, when you put it in there.

Video Reflection

1. Introduction (Approx. 50 words)

Our idea for our spin-off project to make a website where children and students could have a safe space to communicate their mental health. This website helps raise awareness and helps you to navigate the topics relating to mental health. We decided to call this app 'Healio'. We chose this topic as mental health is a very crucial topic, especially in adolescence. Usually people have the need to seek out help with their mental wellbeing but tend to feel uncomfortable doing so. This topic is relevant as many students feel like they aren't that comfortable with talking to people about their mental health and the app provides a safe space for them to do so. I had expected this project to go well, and works incredibly effectively. The reason we chose to not include experts was because including them would increase the price, and we want to make it easily accessible for users to talk to. And we choose them very cautiously, as to provide our users the best experience

2. Defining the Problem (Approx. 100 words)

Our project and this website is addressing the problem that adolescents of the age 13 and above find it difficult to communicate about their mental health, as it may be a sensitive topic to them. It also seeks out to try to fix some of the problems of mental health which include bullying, discrimination, etc. This website fixes this as it provides support to the user by raising awareness about mental health topics.

The website https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/ is kind of what our website was meant to be, providing information about certain topics, and having available specialists to talk to.

We also had https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/mental-illness-stigma which provided to us information about mental health issues that people face.

https://www.beyondblue.org.au/

does a similar thing, where it is providing information about mental health while providing support to people in need of it.

3. Developing the Solution (Approx. 100 words)

Our proposed solution was to create a website available to people of all ages that allows the user to:

Connect with other students to talk with them about your mental health issues. This was included as people may not feel comfortable talking to someone older than them who is specialized in mental health.

Provides resources such as mental health games, information about certain terms relating to mental health, and some calming music. Our project includes mental health games so that the users can have fun while learning about mental health. We included definitions about certain mental health terms to raise awareness about them and help the users better understand them. We included calming music to help the user feel comfortable, and have something in the background while they do a pending task.

The user can have a conversation about their mental health problems. This is incredibly useful for the user as individuals tend to feel more comfortable when they're talking to people online instead of in person. It is also effective so that the user can get more comfortable talking about their mental health.

When we first started planning, we chose to focus on the topic of mental health and came up with a lot of innovative ideas. In the end, we chose to stick with a mental health website. We also came up with a lot of names until we only had one left.

Include photos, drafts, or videos demonstrating your progress.

There is trouble with putting the photo on here so it is on a separate post.

4. Challenges and Adjustments (Approx. 100 words)

During this project, we had a bit of trouble choosing the name as the list was pretty long and full of really good names, and therefore it was hard to decide our final one. But in the end, we chose our name. We also had some trouble with the videos, where you could not hear one of us talking and the background noise was inaudible. But we recorded it again, and then it was perfect. Reflect on any feedback you received and how it shaped your project. The feedback that we got was that we did not have much credibility in our ad, so then in the project we added an interview with a 'mental health specialist' to add more credibility to it.

Screenshot on another post

5. Final Reflection & Next Steps (Approx. 50 words)

In the process, I learned how to deconstruct a problem, learn about how it can be solved and finally creating an innovative solution to support and try to tackle the issue. I learned this by finding out about the problem about mental health, deconstructing and finding out the main problem relating to mental health by deconstructing it, and finding an innovative solution to help solve the problem. Reflect on how this project has impacted your thinking. I enjoyed this project very much and we think that the solution that we came up with could help people with their mental health issues a lot. I also learned how to make a product that would support people who have issues and how to collaborate and communicate in partnerships effectively. In the future, if I would do this project again, I think I would have used more researching and planning before getting to the final product. But overall, this project was enjoyable and very helpful

This describes age groups, hobbies, personalities, problems, and why they may need our product.

This infographic specifies that the audience that we're targeting is between 12-21 years of age(pre-teens to young adults), but anyone is free to use it whenever they want. The person that we're targeting is interested in mental health and wants to learn more about it. This person does not have much money, and they are active in social media and school. Things they love are hanging out with friends, relaxing, going on vacation and overall chilling.

In this lesson, we had to interview another group about how they feel about their mental health. This was done to provide context for our problem and why it has to be solved.

From this interview that we conducted, we found out that some people find it a bit difficult to talk and discuss their mental health openly in conversations. This is relevant to the problem that we are trying to solve with our spin-off project, which is that we want to get students more comfortable with discussing their mental health more openly with other people.

We also want to help students overcome their mental health issues in much safer, private, and trustworthy environments while raising awareness of the issues of mental health and how they can affect teenagers.

This would, in turn, make students more comfortable in their environments and feel a lot safer at school and anywhere discussing their mental health.
