Siddhartha had desire for much despite having everything during his life as a prince because his father restricted him from seeing anything bad about life. Siddhartha would soon assume that there was more to life past the palace.

He sneaks out of the palace and sees an old man, a sick man🤢, and a corpse💀.Soon after he ponders the purpose of life since he came to the conclusion that it always ends in suffering.

Siddhartha becomes an ascetic

After finding out that life is all suffering, Siddhartha renounces the throne and decides to become a wandering monk for 6 years🐗. He finds out that this journey had made him further away from nirvana.

Siddhartha meditates under the Bodhi tree

Siddhartha goes back to eating normally but he finds a tree to meditate at and it is now called the bodhi tree. After meditating for a month he had found the eightfold path/the middle way.🐖

A. How can Buddhism be considered a “reform” of Hinduism.

- Buddhism is shown as a way to end suffering and escape the circumstances of what you were born as unlike Hinduism.

B. Why was Buddhism appealing to lower caste Indians.

-It’s a way to escape the caste system which they were born in. Unlike having to settle with the life they have they can find a way to end their suffering.
