In the last Investigate project, I did research on a pocket park, small park, explored and analyzed Soho and Covent Garden, where there are few open spaces, and chose a specific place where the small park has the potential to be built. 

After critique, I felt that a deeper study was needed on what advantages and considerations/or disadvantages permanent small parks could serve as economically, socially, and environmentally. In addition, pocket parks are financially less expensive than large parks, but they still require maintenance costs and sustainability, and how to resolve social aspects such as disputes and complaints that will arise during construction. I was suggested a "Parklet" idea that is portable, easy to build, and low cost, and I will design and organized my thoughts based on this precedent.

From the background of the Investigate project, I was interested in urban transformation and sustainability, and I was fascinated by landscaping projects, one of the mediums that make cities sustainable. As the city expands and the population gathers, urban development and regeneration projects take place, and it was interesting to recreate the creation of public green spaces as a different form of pocket park that is practically impossible due to various challenges such as housing and financial costs. Small parks have been derived in many forms, and among them, the parklet idea, which regenerates part of the parking lot into a park, is a very unique form, and has been created throughout London since Covid-19. However, there are parking problems and traffic deterioration factors that rarely exist in central London, but how to supply them in other forms is likely to be the beginning of the Realise project's design.

My practice's aim is to provide small public green spaces in dense London's city center, and the ultimate objective is to respond to the challenge of more than halving London's green space ratio, one of Mayor of London, Sadiq Kahn's future plans for 2050.

The precedent is divided historically and contemporarily, from Paley Park, the beginning of Pocket Park, a small park, to Parklet derived from the concept of Pocket Park. The overall outline of my practice is Pocket Park, but it is based on the contemporary precedent, Parklet. 

If I supply public green space to areas with few open spaces, my practice will be well-informed in sites with a large floating population. Since the site is a very crowded, a short construction period will have to be considered, and pedestrian movements will likely affect the overall design. In addition, popularity and sustainability should be considered because it is a public project and challenges the response to the future plans of the Mayor of London. Furthermore, as it is a green space, it is necessary to consider which plant group will be selected, and a census of the surrounding area of the site will be needed.

The final result will be a model. Among the suggestions I received from Investigate Project critique, I will develop the idea of a park that can be installed and moved in other sites that are not limited to the specific site. However, it is not yet known whether that will be reflected as a final outcomes. 

An analysis of the site will be conducted first before starting the design, and the floor plan will be drawn after determining the available space. In addition, I will design based on some considerations that I realized in place analysis, and design programs such as Photoshop, AutoCAD, and Sketch-up will be mainly used. I've never done model-making before, so I'm going to learn about laser cut and make the final prototype using laser cut.
