Money is a very good motivator in the workplace nowadays. People always want more and are almost willing to do anything to get the extra money. I work in a fabrication shop and if I work over 40 hours I get something called overtime and I get paid time and a half, which is when you get paid what you normally make plus half your hourly wage. So if I made 12 an hour normally I would make 18 an hour during overtime. This is a very good motivator I believe because it is a great feeling looking at the check and seeing all this extra money you got for a few extra hours of work. This is just one-way companies use money to motivate their employees to work more. They will also give raises which will make you want to work harder to get more raises. They could also use money to convince someone to stay with them instead of moving to a different company if they are good enough workers. There are many different ways to motivate someone with money

Money is an effective motivator pretty much everywhere you go. People aren't going to work unless they are getting paid. The more money they are getting paid the better job they will do. If you aren't making money then how will you get anything you want or need. If people don't think money is a motivator then if they aren't making money how will they get what they want to need? Other things can motivate you but if you aren't getting paid then what's the point? Someone isn't just going to give you everything you want if you aren't making money. You can't have much if you aren't getting paid. Money is letting you get what you want and save so you can get things you need.

Money is an effective motivator almost everywhere you go. If you raise someone's pay then they are more likely to work harder. Money may not be the best motivator but everyone has an opinion. If you aren't getting paid then how will you buy things you want or need. Money is motivating you so that you can buy those things that you want and need. Money may not be a lot to some but it is to a lot of people. You need money to survive and if money isn't motivating you then how will you get the thing you want in life, how will you survive? There are other things that can motivate people but it doesn't really matter if you aren't getting paid. Why work if you aren't getting paid. You may not like your job but the money you are making is why you are working.

In some cases, money could help motivate people but in my opinion the biggest motivator for most people is success. Personally, money is great and I know money will come, therefore my prime motivator is success because succeeding in life is my biggest goal. Others may have this view as well, not everybody is money crazy. There are people in this world that strive for success more than money and I think that is tremendously important. Money is not everything, but having the ability to give your family what they want and need due to your success is everything! Money is going to come if you work. Therefore this shouldn't be your prime motivator, succeeding in what you do should because without success there's no money. Ensuring that what you do is credible and good work is important because you could end up getting fired if it's not and then you have no way to get money. This is why I say success is the biggest motivator because succeeding in what you do is so much more important than the money you bring in. Success determines the money.

Amber Patterson

Money does not always matter. Sure making money is a good thing but its not all that is important in the world. Some people like myself just want to own and operate my business not just for the money but for a peace of mind and time to spend with my friends and family. Most people have to work a ridiculous amount of hours in order to make lots of money but they are robbed of the necessary time that they need to relax and unwind and spend quality time with their loved ones. Money is a necessity to live in the world but there are so many other thing that are important as well. Some people also see money as non motivational because even though they have a lot of money they aren't full filled. They don't see it as necessarily being successful because they have a lot of money. Success is not always measured by money. I think that success is measured by doing something that satisfies you. Most people go to work because they have to(to make money) but they are unhappy with their daily lives. I think that doing something that you love makes you successful. As the saying goes if you are doing what you love you wont work a day in your life.

Portia Williams

I think money is the main motivator in the workplace. For example, when visiting a low pay-rate restaurant, the service is not that good. Like a McDonalds, its more dissatisfied employees than satisfied employees. I think if McDonalds were to raise the pay it would get better production and motivation out of their employees. Restaurants like Chick-Fil-a have good service. Chick-Fil-A pays their employees more than McDonalds. In the end, its worth paying the employees more because it will affect the customer's experience while at your place of business. Which will have the customers returning to your business again. Rather than going to a business where employees are not really motivated to work.

-Justus Locus

I do believe that Money is an effective motivator, for example you have been working extra hard to buy a new car you have been wanting for a while. The motivation for that comes from the need or want of having it. It provides an excitement that comes from people which makes you want to work hard. Even if you have no plans on spending this money it can be saved for the future, like college, clothes, phone, etc. Also money will not always be a motivating factor to all people. To some people, importance money will be reduced after a certain stage or time in their life. To those people, non financial rewards are more important. They are motivated by money only up to the stage they are struggling for physiological and safety needs. Bills are an important factor, for example if i'm working a 9-5 job and only making 13 an hour, it probably is more harder to make money in a certain amount of time rather than making more money an hour and have enough to pay on time. Money allows us to meet our basic needs—to buy food and shelter and pay for healthcare!
- Princess Holmes

I believe that money Is a big motivator in today's society. Everything revolves around money and you can't have much without money therefore you need money to survive. With the need for money then comes the motivation to get it which we see in even young children. Many families will "pay" their kids for doing chores around the house, which motivates the kids to help their parents clean. Even as you get older you are motivated to work by how much income you are making. For example, if you are working a lower-wage job then you aren't going to be as worried about calling out or not showing up meanwhile if you were working a higher-paying job you would be more inclined to go to work even if you didn't want to. The companies that pay their employees higher wages often have the best reviews and services because their employees like working there, the opposite is seen for companies that pay minimum wage. They are often short-staffed and the service is not good, because their employees aren't making good money. Today most things revolve around money which makes it something that highly motivates people of all economic backgrounds, causing it to be a very motivational thing for everyone.
-Haley McCorquodale

To put it simply, no, money does not motivate. Money is a great benefit, but in no way does it solely motivate. The goal and motivation of many entrepreneurs is to create something long lasting. The reputation and respect of the business that they build will outlive the money when done well. Motivation can also come from the work that is being done. Most businesses are started with a mission in mind. That mission helps entrepreneurs feel confident in the fact that they’re putting everything and more into their work, and it’s benefitting employees and customers when done exceptionally. I would imagine that feeling of true fulfillment is so much better than any monetary value, as well as a great measure of success.

Sabrina Wiggins

Money is a huge motivator. The use of money can get a lot of things done. For example if you're getting a house built, the contractors aren't moving without money. The plumbers won't move without money. Money is a huge motivator for our needs and wants. We work to to make money because it is needed for everyday life. If money wasn't needed for clothes, food and shelter it probably wouldn't be considered a motivator.

Jaide Mozingo
Many individuals, especially those who have bills to pay, like myself, are in support of the idea that money is a motivator. I have worked many different jobs and the reason for each was not because I wanted to learn how to make coffee or run a cash register, but because I needed money. Finding a job usually starts with the first need being to make money, then you use the money to pay bills which causes you to continue working in order to continue making money. Some people will go to college in hopes of finding a career in which they would love, however there is still the need for making money and providing for needs. When one job does not supply the needs to maintain your life, you may go out and get another job to make more money. I have worked two jobs before and it again was not because I liked serving the general public, but because I had to pay my bills. Unfortunately in our world, we cannot live without money because everything has expenses that you will have to pay. You need money to have a home, clothes, a car, to get gas, to buy food, and even to buy necessities like toilet paper or baby food. With this need, you have to have the motivator of making money to encourage you to get a job. If I could have money without working, I would not be working; however I work solely for the end goal of making money.
-Jaide Mozingo

Although money is very important to paying bills, buying resources for living, and other amenities, money does not motivate. Especially in the modern age of Gen Zers coming into the work place. In my personal experience being a Gen Z person myself, I am much more motivated by success and growing practical skills where I work. Money is a temporary resource quickly and easily depleted. However, success and practical skills stay with a person for a much more extended period. When I see a company prioritizing those things among their employees, it gives me more confidence in their professionalism because they care more about the individuals than just getting work out of you. Practical skills can set you up for life, and success gives levels of confidence that no amount of money can buy. As more Gen Zers enter the workplace, I believe we will see more and more instituting these values.

Andrew Plyler

Although money plays a huge role in our society, many people make decisions based on their personal goals or interests. For example, teaching may make one rich, but lots of people become teachers. When starting a small business, profits are slow. However, this does not deter people from continuing their organization. I believe seeing progress in one's personal goal has a greater value than money. It provides a sense of self-motivation and achievement in a person. While not having money can affect one's daily living, if they are happy with doing their passions then their living quality won't be as bad as some think. Comparably, if someone feels morally wrong about their job they may not be motivated by money over time. Overall, without money people can still be motivated by their success and goals achieved.

Kayla Williams

Money doesn't always motivate. Even though, in some cases, money can be a primary motivator. I believe money does not motivate because passion does. Passion allows you to express and build on what you love to do in your business or workplace. Money is just a recognition or reward but doesn't show much true character of what you really intend to do in a work setting. In many cases, money can cause an increase in work levels but can fluctuate in many different ways like a lack of skills and job productivity that can be carried into the outside world. Money will always come with a vast of opportunities. But, money shouldn't be a motivator there are many cons that come with it. For example, many employers quit based on money preferences. Money shouldn't define who you are as an individual and your standpoint in the workplace. Passion and dedication are what bring you money and opportunities in the outer world.

Makayla Sledge

Money is definitely an effective motivator. Who wants to go spend most of their time working if they aren't getting paid what they deserve. Yes, money might not be a motivator if you already have enough of it but for the average American, we need and want that money. Think about working overtime. A lot of people aren't going to want to work more hours than they are scheduled for but when job's offer more than what your hourly rate is, it motivates people to want to stay longer and work overtime. Most people will work as hard as they can if the pay is right. When it comes to switching to a position with more responsibility and more hours, you aren't going to want to do that if you are stuck at the same pay, it's the raise that motivates you to take on those extra tasks and responsibilities. You don't have to be obsessed with money for it to be a motivator. It may not even be money that the people want but they still need it to pay off rent, gas, food, and a lot more things and higher pay is going to motivate people to make more so they don't have to live paycheck to paycheck. - Blake Berwick

I am one who agree with the hypothesis that money is an effective motivator. To begin let me start with saying money is a necessity and not a want. We need money to live today and over 50% of people need more of it. In research I have found that around 80% of Americans are in debt. This debt could include a mortgage, car loan, utilities, education, etc. Because there is a need for this debt, I find money to be an effective motivator. Most of the debts I have named is ongoing and making the money for this is an actual inspiration. Now that we have the needs complete, we ask, how exactly is money a motivator? It motivates one to work harder, work extra hours, and work to get to positions that offer more money. A person will do the unthinkable if the money is right because money is at the top of the list (if not the highest) need there is. I would definitely agree with the hypothesis that money is an effective motivator.
Krystal Blackman

Money Does Not Motivate

Money is not an effective way to motivate. It only has the power to demotivate and trivialize work. It can turn those who are intrinsically motivated at work into extrinsically motivated workers. Money rewards may bear little relation to what the worker does or feels. Money is not a better or more powerful motivation than success. We can't buy all we desire or need with money. There are so many other things, including class, knowledge, morals, and manners, are beyond the reach of money. Additionally, it cannot buy happiness or health. It is unable to instill love and tranquility. In life, money is not everything. In our society, too many crimes are primarily motivated by money. It can lead to heart attacks and a host of other illnesses. The growing influence of materialistic ideology, that is sweeping that has a firm hold on this generation, has led to the amassing of riches becoming a significant aspect of society. Envy and hostility are fostered by wealth. Worse, money rewards can and will set employees against one another, leading to conflict, disharmony and reduced teamwork. The desire for people to advance in society by earning or generating more income is also becoming a major problem. For those who are very well paid, money has a minimal motivational effect “People are undoubtedly submitting to the demands of money because nearly everything is rationed, managed, or valued in terms of money” (Ventura, 1995)

Desmine Townsend

When it comes to the debate regarding whether or not money is an effective motivator in today’s society, I believe that it is a powerful and influential motivator that can increase a person’s work ethic. While there is a shared belief amongst society that money doesn’t buy happiness and that there are more important things in life besides money, you can not ignore how much we all in fact depend on money to live our lives. We live in a world today where nothing comes for free and you have to work hard for what you want. We rely on money to provide for our families and purchase necessities like food, water, and clothes. You have to pay to get an education. The list goes on. The simple truth is that we rely on money for almost everything in our lives which is why money can be used to motivate people to work harder. This is why you see different businesses and companies give out promotions to reward their employees because they realize how strong of a motivator money can be to get people to do their jobs so by presenting their employees with the potential opportunity to earn even more money they are persuading their workers to work even harder. So while it may be true that there are other things out there that can motivate people, you can not deny the fact that money can be a prime motivator when it comes to getting the job done.

Camryn Eley

I'm glad I was given this hypothesis, as I believe it is true. Money can be an effective motivator. Most people want to think they will work at a fulfilling job and make a difference, but that will likely not be the case. Many choose a job or career that earns them the most money The motivation to make money is more than being able to buy things though. Money can provide security and can open up opportunities to be generous. So, in that way being motivated by money can be deeply fulfilling. Money as a motivator is also an effective way of assigning value to an employee's time, energy, and creativity.

In todays society people are often striving to find ways to make money so they can buy their wants and generally be "wealthy". In my opinion money is not and should not be what motivates. To me success is the person I am and want to be, and this is what motivates me. Yes, we may want expensive things but we can not get these things without hard work. If you want something bad enough you will work towards it so in the end you have that self motivation and confidence to know the hard work that went into getting the good you want. In a business setting, personally, I want to be known as someone who has good communication skills and a great personality. I want when people think of me to think of my character and the person I am, this comes within the workplace being motivated to become a better version of yourself rather than being motivated to only work for money. Ultimatley being motivated to better yourself and your career rather than motivated for money will bring in more people for your job making you more successful. Money should not be the number one motivator in a business nor life. For example if a business is failing you should not look for ways to make more money to stay open, you should go back to the beginning, think about why the business was opened in the first place and what goals you wanted for the business. Figure out how to better your business and money will follow after.

Caroline Proctor

Money is a straightforward, efficient, and effective motivator. Money naturally motivates people to work hard considering that nothing is free whether its school, bills, a car ALMOST everything a person may want for involves money, therefore having more money motivates people even more. Competition is natural when it comes to money, and when better work is rewarded with money, everyone's productivity and standards rise. Money can also be used as a fair and feasible method of rewarding all employees. More importantly, money is accepted everywhere and by everyone. When people have the money to do the things they enjoy doing it motivates them and pushes them to get getting money. Money is the main reason behind people's need to work. cash bonuses and other rewards to exceptional workers are giving. As the economy and generation grows. The price of Luxury and simple house supplies will increase. Therefore money is an effective motivator because many people work harder to earn it because they have the mentality that they want to be financially secure enough to be able to buy both what they need and what they want.

In this argument about weather or not money is a motivator I will be stating why it is an effective motivator. In today's world money connects to everything, without money you cannot do much. I feel as if money is a motivator because people work the hardest and go the extra mile for the things that they want. In today society everyone is in love with money and they want to look a certain way or have certain things and that most likely cost money. People will get up everyday and work hard for the money they want to live the lifestyle that they want to have. To sum up everything I have stated thus far money is a motivator for the people who want more or want better for themselves. Money will always motivate people in many different ways.
Kaileigh Gunter

I think money is an effective motivator because almost everything you can do in today’s time cost money. Bills, gas, food, clothes, cars and homes are all obtainable but not without money. Most of what you need or want will cost you money. No matter if it’s a desire or necessity you will need money. The more money you have the more comfortable you can live, that should be the biggest motivator for you. I also think the harder you work the more money you can gain. Whether that be working or start some kind of business, seeing a profit from all your hard work should motivate you to make even more. If money doesn’t motivate you in some type of way then I think it’ll be hard to get through life.

Dontavius Kingsberry-Evans

Within this paragraph, I will use Logos and Pathos to the best of my ability to articulate this hypothesis and the subsequent information. I believe that money is an effective motivator. According to the United States Census Bureau, there are 123.6 million households in the United States. Of that 123.6 million, 15% of those households are in poverty, this could be referring to 15% of the population, but I find this is still a valid point. Within a household, whether it be the mother or the father working, they want to provide for their family. Many believe that money is the way to go, which in a sense rings true, as nothing in this world is truly free. The working guardian within a family would work for said money, for their family to live a “good” life. Working in a job with poor conditions can be considered worthwhile to someone if they get more money out of it; sacrificing their safety and even health for the benefit of their family. I live in Wilson, 25 minutes from the college. Roughly 10 minutes from my house is Bridgestone Firestone, a manufacturing plant for cars, specifically, but I believe not limited to, tires. From what I have heard from an employee that worked there for almost 10 years, the plant can be very dirty. After working a shift, they have to push paper towels into their ears and noses to get out all of the soot from their orifices. While there are many other examples I find this one to be sufficient. A person supporting their family will work through a hard job and difficult working conditions simply to provide for their family, even coal miners in the past risking death. If the breadwinner of a family is disciplined and committed to their family enough, putting in long hours for a job is worth it. Then they will see the happy faces of their children because there is more delicious food on the table.
-Tennyson Bolton
