It’s so awful what has happened to them. But, it’s in the past. How does saying the land acknowledgement help them back them? I really wish we could just focus on regular history.”
Another colleague pipes up, “I get it. It’s important that we talk about these things. But our kids don’t have the capacity to learn about these kinds of subjects. Let’s just focus on the basics.”

You approach your school principal and ask if you can raise this observation and concern at the next staff meeting. Your principal advises that you raise concerns about sending students to the office but that you do not name your observation about Black boys. Your principal asks you to consider being trained in restorative justice practices that you can then share with the staff at an upcoming staff meeting.
