When there is high humidity near the eye of the typhoon, heat will meet with the cold air making more low pressure, which makes the typhoon bigger and faster. Typhoon Haiyan originated from a very low pressure system that came from several hundred kilometres east- southeast of Pohnpei. It went westward and continued to build becoming a category 5 super typhoon, going at speeds up to 350km/h making Typhoon Haiyan unofficially the strongest tropical cyclone of its time.     

·      Typhoon Haiyan destroyed half a million homes which resulted in a massive cost for rebuilding

·      Fishing boats and gear were destroyed which left fisherman out of business and unable to earn a living

·      Rice, sugar and coconut farmers lost their plantations, crops and irrigation systems leaving farmers without an income
·      Tourism is a vital part of the economy in the Philippines, when the landscape was destoyed along with many hotels and buildings it reduced the numbers of tourists that could visit. This resulted in a massive financial loss for the Philippines Toursim Industry 
·      The estimated economic cost was approximately $2.9 billion

·      Over 13 million people where effected by Typhoon Haiyan making it a humanitarian crisis

·      Approximately 1.9 million people became homeless when Typhoon Haiyan hit which meant many families had to relocate and living spaces became crowded

·      Many refuges moved into the cities causing populations in many cities to double in population, this places stress on social relationships within these populations.
·      There was poor hygine because of the high pollution levels after Typhoon Haiyan. This lead to sickness and disease 

·      Rice, sugar and coconut farmers lost their plantations, crops and irrigation systems leaving farmers without an income

·      Uprooted trees and destruction of topsoil had a massive impact on the increse in carbon dioxide release into the atmosphere, which has a significant effect on climate change

·      Typhoon Haiyan brang with it very high rainfall which caused widespread flooding

·      Typhoon Haiyan caused many oil and sewerage leaks because of the high winds leading to pollution
·      The strong waves and currents caused by Typhoon Haiyan damaged coral reefs by breaking delecate coral, overturning large coral and covering the reef with sand.

World Vision had an emergency response program in place when Typhoon Haiyan hit. This program was in place to help children and families. As nearly 400,000 people were affected by the disaster and 35,000 sponsored children were impacted, World Vision had more than 200 local staff that helped. They provided food, blankets, mosquito nets, tarps, hygiene kits and emergency shelters. World Vision provided 128,016 families with food aid, 53,755 families with assistance on the WaSH program (water, sanitation and hygiene), 55,454 families were provided with non-food items like tools, 17,796 families were given shelter kits.  

  

 

World Renew responded quickly to Typhoon Haiyan partnering it’s on ground efforts the Christian Reformed Church of the Philippines. They target the hardest hit community’s first giving food, generators and tarps. The plan that World Renewal had was targeted at both long and short term requirements. Their plan had three parts to it Emergency, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction. This plan helped them to achieve their main goals to help survivors recover from distress and suffering, to provide a way of getting money to those who had lost their jobs, and to improve access to sustainable shelter. All up World Renewal provided 11,971 Emergency Supply Packages, had 4,155 cash for work participants, 339 temporary shelter kits, 1392 permanent houses, 590 fishing families supported, 39 mat weavers supported, 225 animal husbandry activities, 48 small businesses supported, 417 hygiene training sessions and a lot more.
