According to McCombs, and Miller (2007), " in order to address motivation, learning, achievement, and positive functioning, it is critical that the learner be considered just as important as the learning process (p.38)

According to Cast (2019) "Offering learners choices can develop self-determination, pride in accomplishment, and increase the degree to which they feel connected to their learning. However, it is important to note that individuals differ in how much and what kind of choices they prefer to have. It is therefore not enough to simply provide choice. The right kind of choice and level of independence must be optimized to ensure engagement."

" In order to develop instrinsic motivation, instructors must be able to understand what drives their students, what they care about, and how they will be able to engage in learning. According to this network, strategies such as providing choice and autonomy, varying demands, allowing for collaborative work, specific feedback, and student reflection are all able to increase intrinsic motivation in students.- Natalie Griffin

Gordon, Meyer, and Rose (2014), state "Selection of strategy depends upon the learner (prior experience, preferences, amount of practice) and upon the context (home, alone or with others, being filmed, in competition)" (p.17).
