Hi! I’m Ryanne Phoebe Pacaña, age 22, and a BS Psychology student at Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao. I enjoy a fair share of Filipino movies and dramas, as well as original Pinoy music (OPM). My favorite genres of dramas are mostly soap operas, while I enjoy good horror movies too. As for music, I enjoy songs of all musical genres, just as long as it’s good music to my ears. I’m not much of a fanatic, especially towards artists, but I do have favorites such as Juan Karlos, Eraserheads, RINI, Beabadoobee, Jeff Bernat, IV of Spades, Itchyworms, and many other R&B and band artists.

I love music. I especially enjoy listening to OPM, curtesy of my mom’s music tastes for bands, specifically Eraserheads. Philippine Pop Culture enjoys its musical artists, since we are known for our killer vocals and songs that match vibes. I, for one, engage in listening to my favorite songs for every and any occasion. Something about Filipinos and their musical talents bring me pride and joy.

Music conveys messages that normal words can’t express completely. When artists create art to use as covers for their songs, its meaning becomes more attractive to the hearts of others. Let’s picture a guitar, and this guitar symbolizes the acoustics of Filipino music, and every strum of its strings convey powerful tones that bring people to certain moods. A microphone shows the power in a Filipino’s voice. Seeing a fellow Pinoy holding a microphone would indicate karaoke, a popular entertainment that even the global world recognizes.

It’s important to note that although some lyrics in songs seem easy to understand, it hides a deeper meaning that only those who hear would understand. The importance of music, as seen in historical events, highlight how important this art is for Philippine Pop Culture. It shaped certain views in life, like in love and romance. Music truly brings the best and worst in everyone, and for my case, brings me peace.
