Literacy Narrative

      Reading and Writing is not my strongest subject in school. I was just an average student in grade school and high school. In my days in reading, I would enjoy reading history books and later I would have to write a summary on what I read. It helps me become a better reader and writer every time I read more. By the time when I get to my 5th grade year, I started to enjoy reading, writing, and playing music. Ever since then I started focusing on music all through junior high and high school, that could me my future. 

     I remember when I started doing writing in my 2^nd grade year, my teacher would say this “It’s time to learn how to correct your paper.” I remember looking back in those days, the wording is off in my papers. Every time I see errors on paper, I felt dumb. But the teacher would cheer me up and said to me that we all make mistake, that’s why you are here to fix and learn from your mistakes. So, whatever I learned, can help. 

   The first thing I did to learn before I started school was to learn how to say and write the alphabets. I would use crayons to make it more fun for myself to learn. I would watch TV and learn that way. I have my ways to learn stuff the normal way, the weird ways, or hard ways. 

     If I was told to fix my own paper by the teachers, I normally would not use my knowledge to do it myself because it’s your own paper and you feel everything looks good, but you would be surprise. I would go online and look for a website where it can do the fixing for you and suddenly ton of errors. Its helps me learn what I can do to fix it and become a better writer. At my high school, they have a program called the Writing Recourse Center and you would receive some critiques from that program. It is very helpful. I end up with an A- average in my writing classes. It makes a difference to go to that program. 

     Pretend I love writing, if I love writing and offered one subject to write, it would be any sort of music like music history, jazz history, music composer, or how to compose music. My plan after a year at SCC, I will be into music and I would love to compose music or teach music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. 

   As I go further in my education, I shouldn’t have problems in life. I want to have as much as education as I can, so I can have a good life, know what the world is and its always important to experience different cultures because the world is not just in one culture, everyone in the world are different in many ways in life.

Reflection Journal

The assignment I have done that I will be reflecting on is my first essay over people who needs to quit smoking. I have decided to choose this social issue topic. Smoking has been the biggest factor of our human health. It's also a bad, expensive habit. The only good thing about smoking is that it calms your nerves, but you are still giving your body damage. Back in WW2, veterans use two things to calm their nerves down: cigarettes and chocolate. Chocolate is the best choice.

The process I've done to write good papers are using any helpful websites like Grammarly. This process is very effective because it helps me learn from my mistakes. And it's always good to take advantage of any tutors. Tutors can help you big time in any ways. Usually in high school, students in the Writing Resource Center correct papers for you, but here at SCC, tutors don't, the students check your own paper. It's a very effective way of learning.

I use facts on my paper because it will convince people to listen and do what needs to be right. I would have to go online before I type my paper and to be sure it's not my work. I would put a work cited page so that people don't think this is all made up to scare people. I try to grab the reader's attention by posting a fact in the beginning of the sentence.

The one thing I need to improve on is the organization on my papers. Readers would be confused if I mixed up my paper all over and would not understand what I am trying to explain. A way how I can improve is to go to a tutor, so that I can learn from what they can teach me. Tutors are one of the biggest grade savers.

Another thing I need to improve on is my spelling and my pace because lots of times I would rush and using wrong words would confuse readers. All I need to do is to look over my paper thoroughly to check if I have any misspelled words and using my time wisely. I usually finish my paper before it's due. 

The purpose of the writing is for any smokers who needs to quit as soon as possible because you are wasting your money and you are killing yourself and ending up going to a hospital. An example would be Terrie Hall. She died at the age of 53. My primary audience would be people who are smokers, people with bad heath issues, and who are financially struggling. A good website to look over would be the American Lung Association. They have the facts about smoking.
