Director A looks like interpreting/getting ahead of Joe's experience, when he said, "I suppose the feeling of loss haven't left you." By also mentioning his experience, Director A turned the focus to him rather than to Joe's feelings. With Director A, the conversation ended  with Joe not given a chance to resolve his feeling of loss

Director B, after mirroring to Joe what he is experiencing, led him to look at God, and let him stay by letting him pay attention on how God seems like. Director B applies Spiritual Direction process. He has enough process of probing Joe. He gives little time for Joe to stay first with his feelings. Right away, Director B points Joe to talk to God, to tell his feelings to the Lord. He led Joe to notice God and to relish even his madness with God, who seem not to listen to him at all. The director has led his directee to feel God listening even if He does not talk.
