Dry with a sterile cloth. Next, apply antibiotic ointment and cover the wound with a sterile gauze bandage and medical tape.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Universal precautions are a standard set of guidelines to prevent the transmission of bloodborne pathogens from exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM). This activity reviews universal precautions and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in their application.</p><p>Apply a thin layer of bacitracin antibiotic ointment or white petroleum to the wound. Cover with a bandage. Clean area twice daily with soap and water, and apply a new bandage and ointment after cleaning. There is no need to use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol for cleaning.</p>]]></description>
