A Moment of Discovery:
One of the most thrilling moments occurred when I introduced my students to a unique approach to reading comprehension. Most of them were already proficient readers, but I wanted to deepen their understanding and critical thinking skills. Through extensive research and experimentation, I discovered the power of "close reading." Encouraging students to dive into the text, dissect it line by line, and discuss their interpretations sparked remarkable insights. Witnessing the excitement on their faces as they made connections they never noticed before was truly gratifying.
Challenges that I faced :
High-ability learners come with a wide range of learning styles and preferences. While some students thrived in group discussions, others preferred solitary activities. Balancing the needs of extroverted and introverted learners was a challenge. It required flexibility in lesson planning and a keen observation of each student's preferences, but it ultimately led to a more inclusive and productive learning environment.

Dear VP,
I wonder if you realized what surprises would be in store with the group of students you have in Reading Circles. The refreshing takes and delightful perspectives they would share throughout the next few weeks will undoubtedly reignite the joys of reading again. Sure, there would be teething logistical issues with attendance, sharing of resources and additional reading materials, perhaps, but you helped the students overcome them, motivated by their willingness to research, discuss and exchange new ideas. You did well and I am sure you will continue to find novel ways to inspire your young charges to press on in being discerning readers. Read on, press on!

Cheers,
VP

A moment of discovery: I realised that the most important thing is to start off by creating a safe environment for students. Once they build that trust, students tend to feel more energetic in participating in discussions and thinking about their peers' responses and build on them critically.
A challenge I overcame: It is not easy at the beginning in enacting the structure however I tried simple and practical strategies recommended in the book given by RC workshop. The first lesson went by quite successfully and I hear many interesting responses that I did not expect my students were capable of.
Commitment: I will want to try other strategies given in my future lessons.

This journey with Learning circles will be a journey worth the time. It will enlighten you as to how a book can be torn up in terms of interpretation and understanding. It will remind you of how you studied literature in the past and remind you how as a student, we all struggle with text in some way or another. You will enjoy facilitation tools and close reading. By trying out the strategies during the workshop, it will give you a first hand experience of how the students will go through it. you will enjoy the microlab protocol and the fishbowl tool. Trying this in class takes a lot of planning and is not easy but will be fun for both the children and yourself. Rest assured, it is time well spent and you will enjoy every session
