Activity: Research and Recreate the Mona Lisa
Objective:
•	Deepen your understanding of one of the most iconic artworks of the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, through research and artistic expression.
Materials Needed:
•	Internet-enabled devices (tablets, computers) for your research
•	Art supplies (paper, pencils, erasers, colored pencils, or paints)
Instructions:
Brief Research (7 minutes):
•	Use your devices to quickly find information about the Mona Lisa. Look up interesting facts such as the history of the painting, why it's so famous, and any notable features like the technique of sfumato used by da Vinci or the mysterious smile.
•	Focus especially on the details of how the Mona Lisa looks—her expression, the background, and how Leonardo might have used perspective.
Drawing Time (7 minutes):
•	Using the information and images you've researched, draw your version of the Mona Lisa. Try to incorporate what you learned about da Vinci’s style, particularly how he painted faces and backgrounds.
•	Feel free to recreate the portrait as closely as possible or put your own creative twist on it.
Sharing (1 minute):
•	Let one or two of you show your artwork and share one interesting fact you learned about the Mona Lisa.

For the background, I'll draw some skyscrapers to represent New York City. I'll sketch them lightly to create a distant effect, using straight lines and rectangles to show buildings. Then, I'll add a few windows and maybe the Statue of Liberty in the distance.

For the face, I'll focus on drawing a gentle smile with slightly upturned corners and soft, rounded eyes. I'll use shading to create depth and make the features stand out, just like Leonardo da Vinci did with sfumato.

Once everything is sketched out, I'll go over the lines with darker pencil strokes to add definition. I'll also add some color to make the skyline pop, maybe using shades of blue and gray for the buildings and a warm tone for the background.

By keeping it easy and fun, we can create our own version of the Mona Lisa with a New York City twist!

The Mona Lisa is a famous painting made by a very clever artist named Leonardo da Vinci a long time ago. People love it because the lady in the painting has a smile that's tricky to understand. Leonardo used a cool painting technique called sfumato to make her look soft and real, like she could move. In the background, there are rivers and mountains that seem far away, like in real life. Leonardo also made the lady look like she's sitting in a real place by using something called perspective, which makes things look 3D. The painting has a long, interesting story, and it was even stolen once! Even though experts have looked at it a lot, it still has secrets that make it fun to think about. You can try drawing or painting your own version of the Mona Lisa, focusing on her smile and the way Leonardo made everything look real and mysterious.

Nada Alsamawi

The Mona Lisa is one of the most famous drawing drawn by Leonardo Da Vinci in 1503, it was named the Mona Lisa because it was the actual name of that lady in the portrait. It was famous because there are many things combined in the drawing. The Mona Lisa has a slight smile and it always looks at you in different perspectives, it rests in a bullet proof glass. The French government owns the Mona Lisa painting. The real women in the Mona Lisa painting is Lisa Gheradini who was born on June 15 1479. Da Vinci drew her to celebrate the birth of their second son Andrea. The Mona Lisa took 16 years to draw. And legend has it, the drawing is still not done.
