Explanation: This is an unexpected comment two grandparents would say about their own grandson. It appears they are scared of Max, or at the very least do not trust him. They focus on the fact that Max is really getting to look like his father, and perhaps he is also acting like him, too. Explantion: I think that it is contrast and contradiction because in the recent chapters, Freak seemed very rude to others around  him. In chapter 7, I was wondering why Tony D. was being so mean to Kevin and Maxwell. Page 34 the book states "You!  The Freak!! You and the giant retard, I'll CUT you down to size. Dice and slice, baby! Freak show time!"
Explanation: I didn't understand why Tony was so mean to them just because they were different. I don't think that Kevin and Max did anything wrong to him or anybody else.

I think that Max was surprised (pages 124-126) when his dad tied him up in the cellar because he doesn't trust him enough to not scream out loud so the whole town can hear him. I was surprised that he would do such a thing to his own child.
