Some of the most important things to consider when design a package are:
- Know what type of package you are designing; this includes taking your customer's product into account.
- Be sure to consider the consumer's experience.
- Create a dieline. You can do this by replicating an existing package.
- Adding a bleed is important when doing anything that will be printed and package design is no exception.
- Use Global Swatches
- Clean up your work after you are done before you send it for print; ex: delete extra unused boxes or points that got left on your page
- Using Illustrator is the easiest way to create a package, but you can do some things in InDesign if you are not familiar with Illustrator.

Importance when creating a package design as suggested would be the universal product code (UPC) which is having the appropriate amount of contrast between the UPC code so that the barcode can be easily read. Dielines (dashed lines) are important to help identify where to fold and bend to create the crease for forming the package such as a box. Keeping in mind the package type in terms of the consumer and their experience with the packaging as well. By replicating certain repeated items for the designing of the package can help cut down on time and make things easier as well. Using pathfinder to combine shapes or the shape builder tool, this makes package design easier in a sense this allows the shapes to be more precise. Guidelines such as the ruler make it easier to build the layout of the package design as well. Package design can be done in Illustrator as well as InDesign, but certain areas may be easier than others when designing in either of these two. And lastly, preparing the final layout for print, formats are according to needs, and finally print out and create the mockup to determine if it is appropriate.

What I thought was the most important through the video is that not all box size fits all. You have to start from the inside out for the package type. Some things that you put in the package may need sealing material, Food safe material, barriers and more. You have to use a UPC bar code. You have have safety and health cautions, country of origin, and intended use. You have to also include nutritional information FDA requirements for minimum type size. Ingredients in order to weight, best if used by date, allergy and diet information, and kosher/halal certification.

What this video taught me there was a lot more tedious work to package design than I had initially expected. All the health and region labels etc. really is a lot to keep track of. The tips for Illustrator was extremely helpful and I know I'll be referencing back to this video pretty often. Using die lines is definitely something I'll end up doing.

When creating a package design, there are many things that are important.
1. Deciding what package design that will best fit the product.
2. What material the package should be.
3. Having the correct amount of space for a bar code.
4. Cutting along or gluing the right side.

I love that she reminds everyone to be mindful of packaging by using recyclable materials. Also, she's great with shortcuts. Minimum FDA print size is something I would have never thought about! I also found this!

I've been focusing more on the design of the logo and the box itself for this project than anything else. This video made me realize there is much more to be considered when designing a package. Claudia does a great job explaining how a box isn't just a box and there's so much more to take into consideration. The weight of the product, how economical printing of the box is per sheet, set up and assembly etc. There are several factors to consider that I did not think of previously.
