It reminded me greatly of Anne Frank, so here it is!

Safta Mali was just 7 years old when her and her family escaped the grasps of WW2, but just as they were about to cross the border, something sporadic happened: a black bear appeared out of nowhere! Just as she was about to scream, my great grandfather knew exactly what to do, so he advised for the family to play dead. They laid on the ground for 4 hours, she recalled, and my Safta remembers the look on her father’s face when he brought them to safety. She also remembers her arrival to Israel, where she was greeted with a large, bright orange. Now, the only smell she remembers is the smell of Israeli Oranges 🍊 😃

Social media has never been a part of my life until this year. I have never been the type of girl to be on Snapchat all day, Instagram live, or Tik Tok. You would either find a book in my hand, a pen in my hand, or a sandwich. However, as I develop into the adult I will soon become, I believe it is important to develop my brand, the person that everyone will look up to and admire. I have recently been looking up how to create an Instagram solely based on business inquiries and branding purposes, but as I differ a bit deeper, the racism threads kept pouring in like a sea of lost souls. The amount of hatred and inequality that was BANISHED AND MADE ILLEGAL several decades ago is still not only alive, but thriving. This sickens me to the point of completely rearranging my thought process. I get it… this is a hard time. But there is never an excuse for racism. In this instance, however, things are different. Therefore, words are different. The point of this entry is to voice something I have noticed over the past week. People have lowered their expectations so that even the smallest of triumphs can overshadow any large tragedy. As much as I respect how adept the human mind can be to three types of situations, I don’t think it’s right to take away from hundreds of millions of people who are out of a job. Of course this is just my opinion, but I feel that doctors and nurses at this time do indeed deserve the utmost respect for risking their lives on the daily for us. I just think it is important to recognize the realtors, the retail industry, the cruise lines, the marketers, the accountants, and everyone who makes the economy go round that isn’t nearly getting enough attention. This situation may seem “fun” to most, but those are the kids whose parents are making some sort of an income. When I say this, I am speaking for all children and parents who are struggling right now: it is okay not to hide your emotions. You do not have to be “happy” and “raw” every single hour of every day. This is really rough. Firstly, school; I have a few friends across the country who do not even have the opportunity to attend school, let alone get graded for attendance. One may view this as “lucky”, but to them, it is valuable time wasted. Additionally, not everyone is lucky enough to go to a school where the graduation rate is one hundred percent. I am so eternally grateful for this underrated privilege, and I always know that if I put my mind to it, I will succeed. I am also grateful for my mom and dad. We are a small, yet mighty family. Personalities clash every once and awhile, but that is what makes the good memories oh so special and meaningful. Lastly, I am grateful for the First Amendment (not your typical answer at the Thanksgiving dinner table lol). My freedom of speech means so much to me, more than any materialistic item could possibly dream of. The fact that I could one day become a reporter for CNN traveling far and wide, speaking my mind, and informing Americans sends chills down my spine.
