In 1936, hitler violated the treaty of Versailles and sent his military troops to Rhineland. Rhineland was like a safe zone for France, Belgium, and Netherlands because it was deemed as a demilitarized zone to protect them from Germany’s future aggression. Later France and the USSAR signed a treaty of friendship which hitler used as leverage to send his military to Rhineland.
