Case #2 by Michelle Kim

"In PBL, the topic of illegal immigration came up in response to one of our case studies. While my classmates spoke in favor of sanctuary cities and DACA, I felt I had to remain silent since I held an opposing view. Even though I had personal experiences that were negatively affected by illegal immigration, I chose not to share them because I felt uncomfortable sharing views that did not align with the majority’s ideals." - Anonymous Student

I think all of us need to learn to be accepting of different opinions, try not to offend each other, learn to politely educate when someone makes mistakes instead of blatantly criticizing, and accept criticism when given. I hope the school would facilitate this, maybe for example by training students and faculty members in dealing with microaggressions in school and in our medical careers in the future.
