We started our unit by learning the importance of skillful note-taking. What did you learn about note-taking that you can apply to future informational writing projects? Activism was our focus for unit. What does it mean to be an “activist”? Who was your activist and what did you learn about activism throughout this unit? How can you be an activist yourself today and in the future? We completed our final Informational Writing projects in Lucid Press. How did you use quotations and text features purposefully to teach information in new and authoritative ways? We had the opportunity to Skype with author, Laurie Ann Thompson, who wrote Be a Changemaker and Emmanuel’s Dream. What was your “take away” from our Skype and reading the books from this author?

We just finished our informational writing unit, through this I will reflect on some things, this unit has been different than all of the other units because this time it was all fiction and not just like essays of something like that.

We also throughout this unit learned about note-taking and it was pretty easy but I think that I should had listened more than I did and I could of got a lot of more notes but I still thought I had good notes. We had to do fast and furious note taking and it was very fast because on the page that she was reading to us she would let us have a little bit of time but not a ton of time, so we had to take them very fast. Taking the notes off of the internet is easier than a book because there are usually more notes on the internet than there are in books, I think. If you don’t take a lot of notes, then you won’t have enough information on your final project.

Activism, was one of our other things that we had learned in this unit, I also had an teen activist that I did. To be an activist is to want to change the world in a way like no other like if you want something to be done about something or something that is hurting the world or your community. I also think that an activist can be anyone who just wants to try and to never give up and just be that one person who cares more for the people than themselves. I did Malala Yousafzai she is one of the greatest known activists around the world for what happened to her and what she did to fix what happened to her. Malala cared not just for her own sake but for the other girls that didn’t get to go to school. Now that I thought about it Malala really is the greatest teen activist of all time. In the future I would like to help out my city or state with making people put trash away and not see anybody litter because it’s not just the law it’s also something that can help the world out and not make it be the way it is with smells and stuff like that. The world could change in the blink of an eye.

This time we used Lucid Press instead of using Google Presentations. I thought that it was easier than using Google Presentations because of how you could change everything and I thought it was much better and also more fun than Google Presentations. I had some quotes in my paragraphs and I liked putting quotes in mine because it just make them easier than any of the things in my paragraphs. I thought that overall with all of my quotes and stuff like that, that it was easier than before. The text features were nice too because they just made it a lot easier than before in my writing.
I thought that Laurie Ann Thompson’s book “Be a change maker” was really inspiring and it taught me something that will help me out with the future. I think that Laurie is an amazing author due to her actions about these books “Be a change maker” and “Emanuel’s Dream” which are some of the greatest books I have ever heard in my whole entire life. “Emanuel’s Dream” taught me that if you are different that doesn't mean that you have to give up and not try anymore. Her books are made with love and kindness I think. To be a change maker is to be the person who wants to stick up to bullying and bad stuff that is not just hurting you, but millions of other people across the world.

We just completed out unit on Research-based Informational Writing with a focus on Teen Activism. It is important to not only celebrate our sucsessful completion of out work, but also reflect throughout the process.

What I learned about note-taking is that you can do it fast, and learn alot while jotting them down, the fact that you do not to write everything down, and that writing down notes can help you alot. I can apply all of these in future note taking, and if I already did do this before, i would have strong paragraphs a long time ago! It is fun to note take, and will help you alot!

For my activism topic I did a topic itself, Bullying, it was fun to learn about how people are trying to stop it, but then I did not like learning about what the bullying do to their victims. What I learned about activism throughout this unit is that activism can be done by alot of people, and activism can start at a young age. In the future I can be an activist by doing something helpful.

Well, the quotations i just used for quotes, but lucid press helped but was not easy to work with, not sure what else to put here.

The take away from Skyping here was when she said the way she gets rid of writers block by writing down your notes on a piece of paper, and doing a brainstorm and boxes and bullets of jotting down ideas. The take away from the books Emmanuels Dream and Be A Changemaker were for Emmanuels Dream, I did not know that was a real story, and that is pretty good, and the Be A Changemaker book was that it had so many people, and Laurie Ann Thompson interviewed them all!

We just completed our unit on Researched- based writing, It’s time to reflect on my progress through-out this unit. I think that I had some trouble in this unit, and some easy parts in this unit, but in all I learned how to use Lucid press, and how to write fast and furious in my writing.

We started this unit by taking notes for our project. I learned from this, how to take short, but detailed notes, and how to be a fast and a furious note taker. To me, note taking is the hardest part of my project because on the topic I did, It was hard to find all the information I needed for each topic in my piece. But, in all, I feel that I took good notes for my project.

Activism was our focus for this unit. I learned that and activist is someone who make

a change in the world for the better, I learned from my activist(s) that something that is at first small, can turn into something big, and that anyone can make a difference. I can be an activist today, and in the future, by setting examples, and being leaders to people by doing the right thing, like picking up trash on the side of the road, and cleaning places that are dirty from trash. The activist that I did for my project was Team Marine, a group of teens at Santa Monica High School that wanted to make a change in the world. Also, I also wrote about Faye Carey, and how she is giving dogs a second chance at life.

We completed our final Informational Writing projects in Lucid press. Lucid press is a program that is like an advanced google presentation. I really enjoyed Lucid press for this unit because it was fun figuring out how to work it and I personally like to figure out new things. Also, I used text features and quotations in my presentation, by using the quotations for my quotes, and pictures for my text features. I feel that I use good text features and quotations in my final.

My “take away” from Laurie Ann Thompson was actually talking to her on skype because it was cool to actually her what she has to say in person. I learned from her that when you write, you need to own what you write, and that you need to write accurately because it can help you in your future if you start. Laurie Ann Thompson is a great author.

We just finished informational writing. Now it is time to celebrate and reflect!!! From doing our informational writing text I learned that note taking is more important than you would think. It taught me how to organize my ideas and thoughts into manageable paragraphs that turned out pretty good. The skills I learned from note taking can -and will- help me in the long run and for other informational pieces in the future because it will prevent me from being stuck and stumped because I know where all my notes are and how to get to them. I also learned that you have to take notes that make sense and fits what your topic is and what your goal is to learn about.

Our topic for this unit is Teen Activism. To be an Activist it means to help out your community or neighborhood in an extraordinary way or just a way you can help. It also means to have a topic or idea and have it grow through a process of work and hardships that pay off in the long run. Throughout this unit I learned that you don’t have to be young to change the world. Also I learned that you can change the world with one person. Also I can be an Activist now and in the future by finding a cause and really caring about it. I did RaSia Khepra, and I learned that the violence in Chicago is not just because of Chicago like where it is or the people that live there. It is about community problems and never learning to cope with the problems the way they should.

I used many quotations in my Lucid Press. I used them to teach information in different purposeful ways by not having all the quotes by RaSia Khepra himself, instead I use quotes by people he worked with and other people to help support my point and have a more powerful point of view. Also I used quotes by writing down a fact about him and then doing a quote to support it or something he said about that memory or experience.
My take away from Skyping with Laurie Ann Thomason was that you should always follow what your heart is telling you too,(cheesy right) and that it depends on what you do to change the world. I think that the world has so many opportunities that you can snatch. It is all up to you.

We have just finished informational writing and it is time to celebrate. We have done our own successful work and starting to reflect. What was important was that, we got to be sharing our own topics to our classmates.

I have learned by, looking up my topic and putting the facts into my composition book. Another thing I have learned for Note-Taking was that I had lots of time to share with my buddies about what we have learned about our topics we have wrote on.

To be an activist it means to, discover cool things about what you have saw on the newspaper and start grabbing your friends about it if they will be interested in doing it. My first activist was Malala and she has been starting to be building a new life about what is good for her but not for her own family and friends. My second teen activist was Alex Lin and has been starting a great business with his friends and family throughout the years with E-Waste. If I could be an activist today or in the future, I will start be doing a business and and asking my friends if they will be interested to be working for my new topic I have learned about and be saving the world about it if it was a big situation.

I have learned about the quotations that, they are important about the person and what they have said about their own topic. We have all found them in a specific website and putting them in our own words. For the text feature, I have read them in an article and putting them in my document to be specific in my own words. My text features had lots of paragraphs and tons of facts.

I really liked the book on how we could be a changemaker. The book that we have read was fantastic because it told us a lot about what we could do in our dream. The book has told us about what the boy did and on how he has followed his dream. The book was great to read because now we can follow our own dream and have it come true. The book was called,” Emmanuels Dream” and the author was, Laurie Ann Thompson. It was fun to read and fun to see on how our life may go if we follow our dream, just like the book, “Emmanuels Dream.

We have just completed our Informational Writing Research Project, and now we have begun reflecting on what we did and learned. Not only is it important to learn and continue, it is also important to remember what we have done before, to help see the progress we have done.

For instance, we have continued to grow with our note-taking. Before, I would only use a site or two for all my notes, but continually taking notes - and the amount I did (12 pages!) - really helped me learn that you should have way more than one or two websites, depending on what it is. I probably used 30 websites in researching alone. Not only that, but I have become better at really picking the most important details of a passage when it comes to my topic, which will help me when I do research. This will help me not only become more proficient in Informational Writing, but making my job easier and more fun the next time I begin to do another.

In addition, we also learned about activists. I at first had Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by the Tehik-E-Taliban and stood up for childrens’ education. I then took it a step further for my final grade and decided to talk about the international common problems for women and children. This was my favorite, since I talked about multiple subjects, such as poverty, cancer, bullying, and child labor. However, I also talked about how to be an activist. There are websites online to donate, raise awareness, and more. We can make organizations in the future and now, we can support those in need. These are ways to be an activist, and in the future, with our society’s great changes, movement, and plans, we can make this place into a world full with equal opportunities

Not only that, but we worked in Lucid Press and worked toward quotations and things during the process too. I worked mostly with paraphrasing, not putting it in quotes, but crediting it to the creator none the less. Not only that, but I used colors, bolds, fonts, sizes, and more to create my Lucid Press document, making it really mine in text and in core. I indeed had a few quotes, but I usually spent most of my time paraphrasing, since my note-taking is based off of that. Lucid Press was like an experiment for me, and not only did it really add to the fun of learning and becoming aware, it also helped strengthen the resolve and show that we really knew what exactly we were talking about. Afterall, it was a newspaper. I look forward to doing another one, either this year, or the years to come, and I’m sure we will all remember the experience.

Finally, we got to Skype Laurie Ann Thompson, and interview others. We talked about her books, what inspired her, and more. I enjoyed asking questions to someone who already experienced this before. I also really liked how we were talking to such a successful author, and how she had plans for the future and it really inspired me to work at my writing. Not only that, but we conferenced others, who had given me the same inspiration to work hard. I learned what amount of work goes into their jobs, like their notes, their gatherings, research, and more. I look forward to someday have another opportunity like this again!

We have finally reached the end of our Informational Writing Section, and we are now going back to Literary Essays. I look forward to continuing to learn, and looking back into my writing later this year, reflecting my year’s work. This has been one piece of the puzzle, and here comes another!

Something I have learned from this topic and will use in future projects is to take a lot of notes because you are going to need them, I say this because I did not take enough notes and I had to go back and take more notes so I do not want to make that mistake again.

An activist means to help someone or something solve a problem. My activist was malala yousafzai. Some stuff I learned about malala is that she won the nobel peace prize at 17 years old which is the youngest age of a person who has ever won a nobel peace prize, One other thing I learned about malala is that she has a fund to help girls go to school it is called the malala fund. One thing I can do to be an activist is maybe not start a fund or win nobel peace prize but maybe just help someone out pick up their books, Even little things can help out others.

In lucid press I had a fun time because there were a lot more options like shadow and frame color. These are some of the things I learned about.

During the unit, I learned a few things about taking fast and furious notes. One of those things is to take as many notes as you can, and not just save it all for the last minute. I also learned to try and focus on the thing you’re taking notes on, and not take notes on every single thing you see. Another thing I learned is to never try and do everything at once, focus on one topic, then another one, and then another one.

Activism is another thing that we learned about. Activism means making a difference and trying to change the world for the better. An activist that I had was Kailash Satyarthi, who has tried, and succeeded, to free children in child labor. I think that I could be an activist by stopping, or at least trying to stop the bad things that are happening in the world. I also can be an activist by trying to help out people in need.

I used quotes and text features powerfully, and this is how. I put them in positions that would boost the power of my writing. I also made sure that they were powerful quotes and not just puny ones that made no sense. I think that my quotes and text features were pretty powerful, and I made my text features be in a place were they would support my writing.
What I learned from the video conference and the Skype was that no matter how small you are, you can still make a difference. I also learned that you can stop things bigger than you. My take away was that even if you’re small, you can still stand up for yourself.

We just finished informational writing and i’m going to reflect on it

I learned that it is important to take notes because it shows that we actually researched instead of thinking that you know that that was true. And because good writers always take notes. And I can apply it to my future projects to show that i actually did something. I also learned that good note takers write fast and furious and that good note takers stay on topic. And that we make sure our facts are accurate.

What it means to be an activist is to help someone or something or your community out in some way. Like my last activist was Craig Kielburger and he help fight child labor. Now I’m doing bullying and I learned that over 160,000 kids stay home from school around the us to avoid bullying. I can be an activist be if seeing bullying tell the person that is bullying to stop and ask them why they bully and want to hurt people. I can also help by telling people never to bully and tell them why it is wrong to bully. What it also mean to be an activist is that you have to have a passion in what you are doing.

I used the quotes and the text features by saying “ according to bla bla bla over 160,000 kids around the us stay home from school to avoid bullying. I also used the text features by saying according to bla bla bla if every school had a anti bullying program it would help reduce the amount of bullying.

My take away from the book Emmanuel's dream was to never give up on your dream. I have also learned that no matter what you look like if you're disabled or not you can always follow your dream.

We just completed our unit on researched-based informational writing with a focus of teen activism. Now it is time to reflect.

We started the unit by learning the importance of skillful note-taking, what did you learn that might help for the future? I learned not to put everything I learned in one note. You should only write the most important part of the note down on paper, The rest you probably won’t need. This will probably help for the future because it won’t take that much time to write each note. Instead of two minutes it will take 30 seconds.

We were focusing on activism during this unit. What does it mean to be an activist, who was your activist and what did you learn about activism? For me being an activist means that you help the community out and help others. I think that it means that because all of the activists I’ve heard about have helped their community out if it were helping with our rights, or child labor, or even with animals. My activist was Malala Yousafzai. She wanted all girls to get an education. It was rough for her. She was shot by the Taliban, but she survived. I think anyone could be an activist if they really wanted to. You just have to help out others and then you basically are an activist.

We wrote our finals in Lucid Press, how did you use quotations and text features purposefully? I always used my quotations to show that there was a quote. There was no other part in my piece that i used the quotations. I used the text features to give a bigger picture of what was going on. I usually used pictures as my text features. The pictures I used were mostly ones with Malala and then a quote that she had.
We skyped With Laurie ann Thompson who wrote Emmanuels Dream, and Be a Changemaker. What was your take away from this activity? My take away was when she talked about having a connection to every piece you write. I thought it was a good tip so I could think harder and write better in my pieces.

We just completed our researched-based writing time to reflect.

We started by taking notes in our own words. I have learned so many new ways to take notes in my own words that I am starting to have some fun doing it. I can use my new note taking skills in upcoming projects by writing each of them in my own words so that it won’t be considered plagiarizing. I will only copy word for word if it is a quote but I need to sight it first. For example, According to Phil author of lazy lands he says,”A lot of people are lazy but they just don’t realize it”. I also will use it in other projects because now if I know that I need a plagiarism checker I won’t be worried knowing that I put my notes in my own words.

I found out what activism means in this profile about, “How is community service important.” What I found out was that being an activist isn’t just about helping the world it is about doing the little things that can lead up to the great things that can change the world. I studied how is community service important and I learned that it has made major improvements on the brain and how it works. Not only has it helped their actions it has helped their grades and school work.I can be an activist by just cleaning up your community and I can also help people that have disabilities or other things that they may need help with.

used quotes to inform all of the readers by telling them who said the quote and what the quote was about. I also used the text features to show how the picture or the text feature relates to the text.
My take away from the skypes that we had was that you can have a dream and you just will have to work for it. I also had another take away of that when you want to write a book and if you get writers block you can always work around it and make it a little better either in editing or rewriting a part to make it better.

Now it;s time to reflect on our work.

I had a lot of fun note taking, I learned some more ways to note take on Informational writing. One of them ways breaking down my topic into topic sentences, so when I took notes I would put the note of fact into the topic sentence it fit into. I can apply this method for the future because it’s easier to take notes for me, and some of my classmates. I can also apply this method to other essays too.

Being an Activist means to help the world, someone, or a group in some way. There are many Activist but we focused on teens. I learned about a lot about Teen Activism and how they’re helping our plant but one Teen really stood out to me and that was Malala. Although I didn’t do Malala for my Informational Writing she was the most interesting teen I heard of. I did child labor and it was very fun putting together the Informational Writing.

Our final project we transferred all our notes and topic sentences into Lucid Press. In Lucid Press we were able to mess around a little and have fun with it to figure out how Licud Press work and the things you can do in Lucid Press. You could add photos and shapes. In Lucid Press there was a way to add a video too.

It was fun skyping Laurie Ann Thompson because we got to ask her questions about her book and ask her about her time line. She talked about some other teen activist that we didn’t hear of and they sounded pretty cool. She also gave us recommendations on are Informational Writing so we can write better in the future.

As you can see I learned a lot in Informational Writing. They’re a lot of fun.

We just finished our unit on research-based informational writing and now it is time for me to celebrate and reflect on my successful completion of my amazing work

Things I learned about note-taking were that you have to write fast and furious but still make sure that your notes are accurate so you have a great piece and you finish on time. You shouldn’t really have any personal opinions or thoughts throughout your piece because it is an informational writing piece about that topic, not about your thoughts and opinions about that topic because who would want to read an article about your opinions instead of the actual thing. When you are note-taking, you don’t need everything so just sum it up, but if it’s a fact or a quote, you need the whole thing. You also want a lot of direct quotes because direct quotes are very powerful and can really spice up your writing piece. Use also really want to use your time wisely so you are not behind. You really should ask your friends or anyone who can help to improve your piece. You also want to ask questions to get your reader wondering, which would interest them more

Being an activist means to make a better change in the world and help out in any way you can. My activist was Alex Lin and I learned that there are tons of different types of activism and you can be an activist in many different ways, all that matters if you’re an activist is making a change for the better and trying to help someone or something in any way you can. Anyone can be an activist anytime by doing everything they can to help out and trying to solve or help solve the problem instead of just sitting around thinking you don’t have to do anything while everyone else is doing everything they can to help out. To be an activist, just help in any way you can what so ever.

I used quotations and text features to interest and inform my reader so they would like it more and would be inspired like me. If I didn’t use and quotes or text features, my reader wouldn’t like it and wouldn’t read all of it so they wouldn’t see how interesting of a story Alex Lin has and how he inspired me and hopefully many other people. You need to use quotes and text features so your reader wouldn’t get bored and just skim through it without even bothering to read it and realizing what his story is really about and how good it is.

A “take away” I have from our skype with Laurie Ann Thompson was to make a connection with the story or writing piece or else you won’t feel super excited or pumped about it. Another “take away” I had was to start from the beginning and not wait to be an activist. If you realize it in you, don’t back away. Cherish it and embrace it.

Our class just finished informational writing and now we are ready to celebrate all of our hard work with a reflection of all we learned and experienced!

When we first started informational writing by taking notes on our topic I was pretty confident about taking good notes. I knew the basics of taking fast and furious notes. Now I don’t just know the basics I know so much more. I learned to only take notes on the best websites that you can trust and I also learned to take even faster notes by not writing every little thing down so I have all because you can always go back after you’ve started your project and find more information to help you create a great piece. I can use what I learned about taking notes in my future of informational writing because now when I take notes I will know to only take notes from the websites I trust and I will know I can always go back and find more information later, so I know I won’t have to take all my notes right away, I can get more as I go. This will also help me to not get overwhelmed by thinking I need all my notes right now and if I don’t get them right away I will never be able to get more. So what I learned from note taking will help me not overthink things and to use trustworthy websites in my future of informational writing!

An activist is someone standing up for what they believed in and working to persuade others to believe what they think is right. But most of all an activist in someone standing up in the world and a changemaker. For my topic I did Project ORANGS because I think this organization is for a very good cause and I think something need to be done. This Project is an organization that is trying to save orangutans from extinction because the production of palm oil is hurting the orangutans and destroying their homes. Two great girls, Madison and Rhiannon are created this organization to complete their Girl Scouts Bronze Award and they have come so far and they have made a huge change. Throughout this unit I learned a ton about Project ORANGS, but I also learned how to use lucid press, another place you can put your information into, like a presentation, but even better. I can be an activist by standing up for what I believe just like Madison and Rhiannon did. I can also do a project on my passions to change the world, by even one simple idea!

Some text features I used during my project were quotations. I had a few quotes per subtopic and I think the quotes I used really made my work so great. I also added many pictures to show my audience what I was really talking about and to give my audience a better idea about what I was talking about. I added captions to explain my pictures to even give my audience a better idea of what I was presenting. I used a table of contents on my introduction slide to tell everyone what they would be learning about and to give my audience a quick show of how everything was set up. I had fun using lucid press for this project because it was a new learning experience for me and I got to play around with all the cool features that lucid press lets us play around with!

I didn't get to attend the skypes, but Laurie Ann Thompson’s book Be A Changemaker is a very cool book and it really inspired me just by the cover. Even though I didn’t get to attend the skype I know that Laurie Ann Thompson is a changemaker herself and from what I have heard about the skype she did a great job teaching everyone new and great things. The book has great things inside that are very inspiring and the book showed me that I can be a changemaker too!

We just finished our research based informational unit in writing, so now it is time to reflect on how we did.

I learned many things from taking notes for informational writing. Some of the strategies that I used were very common some were not so common. The first thing that I learned to do is to write in bullet points because it helps you stay organized. I also learned that when I am taking notes you need to write fast and furious and you don’t have to be neat because you can clean it up into perfection later. I also learned that you need to stay on topic and be very brief because you will lose your reader if you keep going on about one thing or you switch topics before they even know what happened. You also need to think about what is going to interest the reader, like a fish you can’t just have a hook in the water and expect the fish to bite you need to interest it and put some worm on the hook. You shouldn’t just keep the notes to yourself, share your notes, get other opinions so you can improve. Also remember to ask lots and lots of questions to make the reader wonder. You also don’t want to add your own opinion into the writing. It can really make your writing a better piece if you add direct quotes.

I have learned a lot about what it means to be an activist, it means that you are someone who stands up against the world because you believe something is not right. It also means that an activist is someone who does not give up and no matter how many times somebody says you can’t if you believe in yourself you can. The activists that I did were Alex Lin and Malala Yousafzai. I learned that even if you have a death threat over your head or parents who don’t think that you can do it these people did what everybody thought that they couldn’t do. Malala was shot in the face and the Taliban thought that that would quite her, but it just made her voice louder. Alex Lin was only 5 when he had the idea to help out the community by getting rid of e-waste. I can be an activist today and the future by if there is something going on in the world that is not right I can research and get my voice to be heard. I can be an activist today by helping out the staff in my school and people in my village, like picking up garbage, helping out at the library, anything that I want can be accomplished. You just have to believe that you can do it.

I used quotations and text features in an authoritative ways by saying according to and so on. It helped to have quotations because it really hit the reader and it helped hook the reader into the writing. It also made my writing sound more professional because it sounded like a real journalist wrote it and it was just a 12 year old kid. The quotations helped teach information like how a lot of people in the US take learning for granted and that learning is like a precious diamond. Text features helped because I was then able to make it look more appealing. Lucid Press was a very fun site to use. It let you arch your words, make shadows and many other cool things. My favorite part was having it linked to google drive and how you didn’t need to save it saved automatically. It was also very easy to put into google classroom because it was just like putting in a normal document.

We read two of Laurie Ann Thompson’s books. We read Be a Changemaker and Emmanuel’s Dream. Be a Changemaker was filled with profiles on all different teen activists. Emmanuels Dream talked about how this boy was born and had only one good leg and he was not able to walk. He had to learn how to hop and crawl.is mom carriedhim to school everyday and one day his mom told him that he was to heavy and she could not carry him so he had to hop all the way to school and it was two miles there and two miles back. As he got older he wanted to make a change. He decided to ride a bike all the way around his country. He got a bike and supplies and he set out he strapped his bad leg to the bike and he practiced and he eventually made his way around his country.
My take-away from this unit was these people work hard everyday to make a change in the world. They have done things that people thought kids were unable to do.

We just completed our Research-Based informational writing with a focus on Teen Activism. It’s important to not only celebrate our successful completion of our work, but also reflect on our growth throughout the process

First, I learned about note taking is that you have to write fast and furious. If you don’t, you won’t have a lot of notes and you won’t be ready for writing your final piece of writing. Second, I learned for taking notes is that when you are writing your draft and you notice that you don’t have enough stuff for that topic, you have to go back and do more research and put it into your notebook and not just look at it and write it in your draft. Third, I learned is that you have to have a ton of notes. When you are writing notes, you have to write more than you need. I thought that I didn’t write enough notes. Fourth, it has to be organized and not all over the place. If it is not organized, you will not be able to find all of your notes. I thought that I could’ve write more fast and furious. One last thing is that you should only write the most important parts of the website, and put it into your own words.

We learned what activist was for this unit. Being an activist is making a change. A change could be starting up a program that helps something in the world. It also means helping the community. A girl named Faye Carey started a animal shelter and brought animals into that shelter that were abandoned. She found many new homes for many new animals. My first profile project was about Faye Carey. She made and is still making a big change on the world. She has advertisements on other websites and her own facebook page that lets people know what she is doing and trying to give an idea to other people to do something like she is doing, or help her. My final project for teen activism was on animal abandonment. We put it into Lucid Press and had 8 paragraphs on our topic. I can be an activist in the future by maybe starting my own animal shelter or doing something else that makes a change. Maybe when I am older, I will want to start something that makes a change.

We completed our final Informational Writing projects in Lucid Press. I used text features and quotations to show the bigger picture. Quotations show another persons point of view, and or specific facts. I used some quotations, but I thought that I should’ve wrote more quotations throughout my writing piece. I used quotes on every paragraph but I should’ve wrote more than just one in every paragraph.

We had an opportunity to skype with Laurie Ann Thompson who wrote the book Emmanuels Dream. I was not here for the skype because I was absent. But, I got a chance to read the book Emmanuels Dream. My takeaway is that you can do anything that you believe that you can do. Also, another takeaway is that you can always find a way.

Informational writing is really fun! I learned a TON! I learned the most in note taking. I had a really fun time doing it and I feel really good about my final piece!

We just finished informational writing on teen activism and now it’s time to celebrate and reflect.

I learned that in note taking that you have to take notes that are linked to the topic because if they aren’t you are pretty much just wasting your time because you won’t end up using the unlinked facts. I also learned that you don’t have to get everything because you can always find more notes somewhere else. The next thing that I learned about note taking is fast and furious notes. This helps because if you need to find notes fast you have to take fast and furious notes which is where you take fast notes and that you don’t take every single note. I also learned to use quotes because if you take a note and you like it so much that you don’t want to put it in your own words make it a quote so you don’t plagiarize.

To be an activist it means to see someone doing something that you don’t think is right and instead of not doing anything about it you stand up and do what you think is right. I did Project O.R.A.N.G.S. and I learned how it isn’t just people that need someone to help them and need someone to stand up to them, but I have learned that the orangutans need help too. The orangutans are on the brink of extinction because of one thing. People. People are making palm oil plantations and pushing the orangutans closer and closer to extinction every year. If this keeps happening, if people keep doing palm oil plantations the orangutans could be gone forever in 5-10 years. I learned that there aren’t just activists, but also TEEN activists. Just because we are younger doesn’t me that we can’t be heard. I can be an activist by being heard, by standing up for what I know what is right. I can be an activist, everyone could, but the people that have a chance are too afraid to take it and the way I CAN be an activist is by helping people and animals. I will stand up for what I KNOW is right.

I used pictures to show what the orangutans look like and what palm oil looked like. I also used captions to explain what the pictures were and what they had to do with my topic. I used quotations for important words and quotes. One of my quotes was from jane goodall and I loved it because it almost summed up teen activism for me. This was the quote, “Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something that you don’t believe is right.” I put that it quotes because if I didn't I wouldn’t have been giving credit to the person who said it. I also used subtitles to show what my paragraphs were about. The first text feature I put was a table of contents. I put the names of my paragraphs in order of where they were. I also used shapes to separate my subtitles from my paragraphs which came in handy when my paragraphs were super close to the subtitles. The last thing I did was my bibliography which was very helpful when it came to quotes because I just cited the website instead of putting it next to the quote.
My take away was that I got to learn more about teen activists and I learned how not just teens can do something but that EVERYONE can make a change and do something. I also learned that you might not think you can make a change, but you can. I think that the author made me feel stronger and made me more confident that I could make a change and that I could help people. I think she also made me realize that even if I don’t do something now I can make a change later. Even though I didn’t attend it I still learned a lot from her video and book Emanuel’s dream.

We just completed our research based writing, on teen activist, and activism. We now reflect, and celebrate our growth in this amazing topic.

There are a couple of things I learned about note-taking, and the importance of note-taking. One of the most important things I learned (in reading, and writing) is that you have each topic sentence, and then you make minny bullets for each of those topics, so that your notes are organized, and easy to find. For future informational writing projects the first thing I am going to do is find the most important, and big topic sentences I can talk about, then I will take notes for each of those topics, instead of taking notes on the big topic/activist. I also learned that having quotes is super important to have powerful statements from people.

I never really knew that much about activists, and activism until this unit started. To me an activist is a person who makes a change for the better. It is also a person who will work hard at making a change even if there is a roadblock, and a person who will get by that roadblock. My activist was YUP or Youth Ultimate Project. Within this unit I learned great things about activism including there are many activists, and activists all trying their hardest to make a change, at something important like the health of kids, or the abandonment of animals. I can do many things to be an activist including just saving up money, and giving it to my church that raises money for people in Peru.

We used Lucid Press as our final newsletter. I used quotations to quote people on something they said, so that my audience knows that it was not my words but another persons. We also use “According to” so that in my paper, readers would immediately know who is actually the source of my fact that I have. In my final paper text features came in important too, like a bibliography so that the readers know where all my information comes from. I also had a table of contents so that it is easy to find what topic is on what page.

My take away from Skyping with Laurie Ann Thompson, and reading her books it that there are many people who had a dream, like Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah, and then those dreamers put it into a reality. Emmanuel wished that people with disabilities like himself, could have the same part in the world as people without disabilities. He proved everybody that with only one strong leg he was still capable of doing everything a person without disabilities could do. He proved them by biking 400 miles in just ten days. I learned that if you put your mind to it and persevere then you can do anything, just like Emmanuel and his long journey, and Laurie Ann Thompson persevering for five years while writing her book Emmanuel’s Dream, about Emmanuel and his amazing story.

After writing this paper, I learned many things. This has helped me not only with my writing skills, but it also has informed me on what things I can help out with. I now know am familiar with great sites like Easybib, and Plagiarisma, to help me cite my sources, and know that I have a plagiarism free paper.

In this past unit, we learned about Research-Based Informational Writing. Our focus was on Teen Activism. We also learned how to take fast and ferocious notes, how to support your claim, and text features. These text features include: quotes, headings, graphics and much more.

Something I learned from note-taking is that you have to get just the facts. You also have to spend your time wisely, otherwise when you go to start writing, you will have no facts. Another thing I can use to help me in future pieces is that you need to take fast notes. The faster, the better. But, in that, you need to get the correct notes. You just don’t want to be writing about something that isn’t even related to your topic. When taking notes you have to put them in your own words because if you don’t, you plagiarized. I learned a lot about note-taking too.

Being an activist means you take a stand for what you believe in and change the world for the better. My teen activist was Malala Yousafzai. Malala stood up for girls’ education rights in Pakistan. She risked her life for the cause, and put others first. An activist is someone who is compassionate and has a fire in themselves to do good. Malala has now won the Nobel Peace Prize, and many other awards and honors. She had this drive to change something, that she put herself to the side, and put girls and many other children first. I learned to be an activist you need to want to change something. Making the world a better place, benefiting everyone, but mostly others. I can be an activist in the future by standing up and saying something.

In my piece, I used a lot of quotes. I used quotations by interviewing my dad, a former cancer survivor. My topic was about The American Cancer Society and Relay For Life.I quoted my dad, and made the facts really stand out. I also repeated really moving pieces of my work to show people what really mattered. I purposely repeated really good facts because, then, I can used powerful things to capture the reader. In a way, I am being a kid activist by writing about activism because then I am spreading the word. I used other text features like graphics to draw the reader in. The graphics also made my newspaper visually attractive.

My takeaway from Laurie Ann Thomson is that no matter what people tell you, you can still make a difference. Also, from reading her book, “Emanuel's Dream,” I learned that you can have some problems, but you can always overcome them. Emanuel only had one leg. People always told him he couldn’t do anything and that he was useless. But Emanuel proved them wrong. He rode many, many miles, with only one leg! I now know that just one person can change the world. Laurie Ann Thomson has showed me how to make a difference, and how to make the change you want to she in this world. In the future for my Research-Based Informational Writing I look forward to using Lucid Press, Plagiarisma and Easybib

We just completed our unit for research based informational writing focusing on teen activism. Its important to not only celebrate our succession, but to reflect on our work and growth throughout the process as well.

There are many things I learned about note taking in our project. I can apply these things into future informational writing projects by writing fast and furious, like I only got one chance. Paying attention, and writing down useful facts for the future. I can compare my notes to my peer’s notes and add some I may have missed. I need to not worry about spelling errors, I can fix those later. I must stay on topic within my notes and organize my notes for later on. I should use more than one resource for my notes, you can’t get all the information at one website or book. The format of my note taking should be in boxes and bullets form. And I should use quotes to lure the reader in and get them interested.

Activism was our focus in this unit. My activist or act of activism was child labor. To be an activism you need determination and drive. You must want to make that change and take the first leap of faith. I think to be an activist it means a lot of things, but there are some that need to be listed. You need to stand up for what is right, no matter the risk. Your words should be remembered. You need to make a difference, I think that is what it means to be an activist. I can use these skills I have learned to become an activist in the future, it doesn't matter how old you are, you just need to own it, be proud that you are fighting for your cause. I can become an activist by choosing how will make a difference and the steps I will take to accomplish that goal. I might need to travel around the world for someone to hear my voice, but it will be heard, and I could appear on TV, talk shows, radio, even meet with the government, to find someone to help me with my cause or change that I want to have happen.

I used text features to make my project seem authoritative with powerful quotes to draw the reader in, I used solid facts to prove my point. I especially cited my sources to give credit to the websites i got the facts from, So it wouldn’t be considered plagiarism. I even ran the paragraphs through plagiarisma to verify that I didn't steal anything from a website. I used subtopics to organize my research. I used headings to inform the reader on what they will read about in the next paragraph. I used a paragraph kind of structure to make it look neat. i also learned how to write a topic sentence and how to write a proper introduction and conclusion.

We had the opportunity to Skype with Laurie Ann Thompson author of “Be a Change maker” and “Emanuel’s dream.” I learned a lot of things from the experience, I learned that big or small, the difference you make is still a difference and impacts and affects others in a positive way. I learned that sometimes there are people who won’t believe in you, so you have to prove to them that you can make a change and that you can fulfill your dreams no matter how impossible it may seem. It’s not hard to make a difference, you can still try, and if it fails, try again don’t give up right after one mistake. making mistakes is the stepping stone of success, and if you put your mind to it and believe you can do it, you will. And it can be something as small as just telling one person how someone in our world, made a difference in one way or another. Raising awareness is still making a difference. Sometimes you don’t realize you have the power to make this change, until a lot later in your life, and that's okay. It doesn’t matter when you make a difference, it just matters how.
In the future I plan to use all the skills and tools I have been introduced to for other informational writing. I also plan to use the software that I have been introduced to for future projects.

It’s important to not only celebrate our successful completion of our work, but also reflect on our growth and thought process.

There’s many things I learned about note taking. some things that I can apply to future units is taking long good notes for a good long story. Also to use more than one source for notes. When writing these notes in the story, Don't write exactly what the source said.

We focused on activism for this unit. What does it mean to be an activist. My activist was to girls. MadI and Rhiannon. They were two girl scouts who helped save orangutans. I learned a lot about activist too. An activist is a person or a group of people who help a cause or start a cause. I really don't think I could be an activist. I wouldn't know the first thing. But if I could be an activist I would help endangered animals.

I used lots of text features. Most of them taught people things. I had picture with captions. The captions taught people what the picture was and a little information. I also had a table of contents. And of course I put in a bibliography.

Skyping with laurie ann thompson was awesome. I learned a bit about her. And two ways to deal with writers block. I learned also good ways to find notes and information. I also learned a little from her books. Like some other activists.

We have just completed our unit on Research based informational writing and we focused on Teen Activist. We are going to celebrate our growth in writing and are going to reflect on our projects.

What I learned about note taking that I can apply to future informational writing projects is that you really want to interest your reader and put quotes and pictures to not bore the reader. another thing I learned is that you are gonna want to add color to your project to catch the reader's eye and compel your reader. Also you want to have something fun and maybe even a quiz to keep the reader on the same page and teach the reader.

An Activist is a person who not only helps but changes the world by helping the community and the environment. An activist can also be someone who stands up for what they believe in and take a stand. The activist I chose was The Change The World Kids. It started out with two eight year old twins who heard about a disaster and then started to help other people with their needs all over the world. What I learned about activists is that they weren't afraid of what people would say about them and they would take a stand. How I can be an activist today is by taking a stand in what I believe in and help many people with their needs.

How I used quotations and text features to teach information in new and authoritative ways is by really adding juicy details and a lot of facts. Another way I made it cool is by adding color and pictures to my project to make it interesting and compelling. How I also make it interesting is

When I started to come up with my topic I read Be A Change Maker and thats were I got my idea for my topic. When we read Emmanuel’s Dream It really inspired me to fulfill my dreams and that if anyone tells me I can do something that doesn’t mean I can’t. When we Skyped with Laurie Thompson She also inspired me that I can do anything if I try and that I can be a change maker too. Also, When we Skyped with Laurie Thompson she would talk about how just doing little things can make a difference like donating money to a charity, or saving dogs from getting hurt, or even just helping a neighbor or friend. I also learned that the smallest people can do big things
I think that I could do better at adding more quotes and really dig deep and get more information. I also want to do better at really putting juicy details and really interest the reader.

What’s Informational writing? Informational writing is a genre of nonfiction and includes information about something in the world. I’ll be talking about my reflection in informational writing. So let’s get started

There are many things I’ve learned to take notes and that’s you have to write very fast and collect all the information that you can because you only get one opportunity to gather notes. What I also learned is when you gather all those notes, the work has paid off and you may or may not do it again. You even have to put those notes into drafts of information. Finally you put bullet points to organize your notes.

What it means to be an activist is to change something in this world that’s bad and make the world new again without the bad in it.My activst name is Jessica Assaf.Jessica Assaf changed the world by making cosmetic products safe without dangerous chemicals in the products. How can I be an activist is try to find something that’s bad in the world and make this world new that Ilike to do and find someting bad about it.Activst can this world and make this world new again.

How I used quotation and text features is like a regular profile. For example, when I did my final copy on Lucid press I made the paragraphs as a regular paragraph format.I also did 2 paragraphs in each page in Lucid press.I had a lot of facts about Jessica Assaf in a regular profile format. What I can do better is try to make like a newspaper by making the texts thinner and add some pictures with it too.

What we talked about in the Skype is about a bit of her childhood and about her book.We learned a lot about her like how she wanted to be an activist and how hard it is to create her book. One of her books are called “Be a Changemaker” and in the book she talks about how to an activist and talks about several activist in her book just to show an idea what an activist does. She is one of the people who kind of is a changemaker because she’s telling people how to be a changemaker and make this world new once again.
In this their are many thing to fix.But people don’t know how. That’s why people are making a difference and you can be one too but first you need to find something that bad in the world and that’s when your journey to Activism starts and the end, you’ll may never know.

Our class celebrated the completion of our work but also reflect on our growth throughout the process. We just completed our unit on research based informational writing with a focus on teen activism. its important to not only celebrated our success

We started our unit by learning about the importances of skillful notes. I got a lot of notes written and it was a lot of fun making the notes on my topic about dog adoption. What i learned about note taking is that it can be fun but it is also helpful when you are trying to write a paper. If you don’t have notes you will never have a paper because the notes are the first step that you need to take in writing an informational writing peace. I also know the notes need to be legible and not sloppy so that you will understand what you wrote. If you write your notes sloppy chances are that you will just guess what you meant on some of your notes. If you don’t get your notes taken correctly then you aren't going to have good information. If you don't have good info your readers will say that stuff is garbage and not reliable!

Activism was the theme for this unit of informational writing. To me the word activist means to do something that could potentially change the world at least a little bit. A little bit is a huge step on changing the world but everyone in the world has the potential to be a great activist. My activist wasn't an activist it was more like a topic but it was dog adoption. One fact about dog adoption is that some shelters after an animal has been at the shelter for ninety days the dog or other animal will not be their any more which means that they will die at some shelters. So if you want to adopt an animal or save one just remember that some shelters you only have around ninety days to do so. You can be an activist by doing something as small as cleaning up others litter but you could also change the world by doing something that some of the famous activist did or are doing now!

We completed the final draft in lucid press. I used my text features in a couple of different ways such as using photos and one quote in one of the paragraphs. I thought the info first did the stuff that i already know about that sub topic besides the lost dog sub topic because i already experienced that in late october last year and we found our dog on december 10nth so 54 days and then fe finally got our dog back.

We had the opportunity to skype with the author that wrote to books so far they are, be a change maker and emmanuels dream the author's name is laurie ann thompson. What I took away from that experience was the wonders of the behind the scenes of writing a book and all the effort that the authors put into writing a book like it took around 10 years for her to write be a change maker. I actually have never skyped or knew what skype was before the skype yesterday with the author laurie ann thompson. So just that was a new experience in itself I think i will do that again when we skype again ( by that i mean today ). The be a change maker book has a whole bunch of info about teen activists that she has meat besides two of them she did meet all of them and also in the emanuels dream book she meat emanuel and now e-mails and contacts him different ways

In conclusion the unit about informational writing experience was good because of the skypes and all of the great research we did to complete our informational stories about various topics. I look forward to writing or typing more informational essays about different topics or people!

We just completed our unit on Research-Based informational Writing with focus on Teen Activism. Now it’s time to celebrate and reflect on our amazing piece of writing.

There are many important things that I learned about note-taking through out the informational writing process. I learned that writing in bullet points that it can help you because it’s easy to keep track of and you know when a note stops and starts. Another good thing I learned about note-taking is that you should be simply and clear it doesn’t have to be long just make your point. I also learned that you should stay on topic if you are putting it in your own words and don’t talk about horses when you topic is on E-Waste. You should compare your notes with your P.L.N. so that you can get a good understanding and help explain your topic. Those are the many things that I learned about note-taking.

Activism was what we wrote this paper on so what does it mean to be an activist? An activist is someone that takes a stand in life and they try to stop the problem or lower the level of the situation. My Teen Activist that I did my piece of information on was Alex Lin he was an activist that saw a problem in the environment and started to collect computers and refurbish them so that they could stop the E-Waste problem in the Area of Rhode Island. I was thunderstruck by way he saw a problem and started to do something about it and not just sit around and watch it go by. You can be an activist by starting to collect trash for the environment or do other such things. You can move farther forward in doing good deeds and carry this gene with you for the rest of your life.

Now that we completed our project we put it into a lucid press document and added quotations in it to speak with more authority. I used quotations in every paragraph in my writing whether it was Alex Lin’s words or one of his friend that helped a lot with the E-Waste problem. I also used text features such as pictures, videos, bibliography, and a table of contents. So photos that I had on my starting page was a picture of Alex and other sorts of things such as these. A video I used was the one on Alex talking to you and explaining what the problem is. I had a bibliography to cite my work to where the credit was do. I also had a table of contents to show what was on each page. These are great things to have on your paper to be more organized.

When we had the opportunity to talk to Laurie Ann Thompson it was exciting and a different experience. I learned that it is good to collaborate with an author that is writing and has an understanding of what we are doing. She has written two books Emmanuel’s Dream and Be A Changemaker. They were great book with details like no other. This is because when we were talking to her we were able to talk to her and ask her a couple of questions to learn how how she did it. She was really nice and I was glad we could all talk to her (no wonder why her book were so amazing). I will take more away from those books in the future and to hopefully meet with her again.
In summary, I loved doing this report and hope to do more on activism and maybe become one later in my life. This was a great way to learn more and I know Activism will expand and grow bigger.

My thoughts on informational writing was bad at the start of this unit. My mindset of that started growing as I saw more and more options, making informational writing seem like an open door to me. There are many things I learned about note taking in my project

When I started note taking, I thought that note taking was very stupid and it had no meaning to what I was doing for my project. As I went on and did my profile, I really noticed that If i did too much note taking, I would fall behind, but to little would leave just looking around confused. So Thats where I set my mind to the right note, and took notes at that level. And my advice for note taking is to make sure you have all your subtopics noted, with at least 5 notes on each. Activism was our focus for this unit. My activist topic was child labor. I think to be an activist you have to do something that may help the world, but not do it once, but focus on it and keep on doing or trying to. I think you could be an activist if you focus on picking up trash, every day. I learned through authors that activism varys in topics. It could be just picking up trash or fighting for your life just to go to school. I think I could be an activist today if I took a stand on bullying and kept on doing. Or I could pick up trash making sure the lake does not get polluted. But I would have to keep doing this. We completed our final informational writing projects in lucid press. I think I used my quotations by trying to hit the reader home by showing what happened to people and what people think was happening. My newspaper article I thought was good but I think I could Have improved on my text features, but I think my pictures were very deep. I put the pictures to show the reader the horrors of child labor without detailing graphic display. I put them in to slowly make the reader want more. It also told the reader to “keep going” in my things as at the end I put child labor in usa. We had the opportunity to skype with author laurie ann thompson who wrote be a changemaker and emmanuel's dream. My thought on emmanuel's dream was that instead of other books giving cold facts that you can't understand, she put it into small sentences that kids and adults alike can understand. His story was an interesting story. My giveaway from the books were that it must e hard/rewarding to be an author, because she has to do work but it levels out when she gets praised. I think she was a nice person and will want to skype with her again!

I think this unit was a very good learning experience for me and I wish to do it again!

we just completed our informational writing on teen activism and teen activism topics. In this topic we found and choose topics and then put it in lucid press and then we finshed.

there is many things that we have learned about note-taking like writing fast because you need to get notes or else we can't write stories.Another thing that I learned about note-taking is that it helps me prepare for the future because it teaches me that In the future I will be timed and I have to work to get as much done as I can.I also learned that taking notes can help me by keeping track of my research that I found.Another thing I learned was that taking fast notes can help me by making me able to get the work I need to done and in the time that I need to get it done. One more thing I learned was that I need to be able to get all the things I need to write in a fast time.

My activist was malala yousafzai and she was shot in the head but it missed her brain and she lived. She was shot because she spoke about the right for people to get education.Activism means to be active towards a topic that is a problem and to make a difference.I can be an activist today if I find something that is a problem and speak up about what I think people can do to stop it.Malala also blogged about that right for education and won many awards because she stood up and she knew what could happen but she was brave and made a difference. One last thing that can help me be an activist is if I stand up and be brave and don't let fear hold me back and fight to stop it.

my topic was animal abuse and I used quotations to show what other people think about the topic and not just what I think.I also use text features like pictures to show them the problem and not just talk about the problem so that people can see it in two ways.Another way I use text features is that I take good quotes and I put them in a box and I really talk about that quote or fact and I use it to make a point. One thing I did was I put in a table of contents so that people can see what they will learn about before they read it.One last thing I did was I put in quotes to show how many people care about it.

In the book be a changemaker It has different activists on different topics.

In the book it has different chapters with different topics but in the chapters it has a few things that it focuses on.I also learned that the book speaks to me by showing me how to be a change maker and how to start something good.Another thing I learned is that sometimes that if I want something done or solved like animal abuse I should do it myself. One more thing I learned is that I have to be that change in the world and stand up and say something about it if I don't like it.One last thing is that I learned about all the problems and some are big and some small but if someone stops a small problem they still stopped one and that helps the world.

In conclusion I have learned many things about activists and activism like the things they do to help the world and make it a better place to be in.I also learned that notes can help me with skill for the future and it can make me better at writing.

We just finished our unit on Researched Based Informational Writing. For this unit are main topic was on teen activism. We are celebrating our learning and growth by reflecting.

This unit a big part of our project was learning how to take notes. We learned how to take the most important facts and write them down in our own words. For videos we had to take the notes very fast because we would only get one or two chances to see the video. We had to find the best websites so that we could get lots of accurate information. We took bullet point notes to stay organised. Then we could find our information easily. We had to take notes fast but we had to make sure they made sense when we looked back at them. We called this fast and furious note taking. This way of note taking helped us to have lots of great note to put in our paragraphs. Something I can take away from that is that you need just the facts, to make your writing come to life.

“What does it mean to be an activist?” This what my classmates and I pondered as we started our Researched Based Informational Writing unit. Now after the unit, I know what it means more than I ever could have imagined. To be an activist, it means to put others life in front of yours. To take action and help change the world. It starts out with a problem, then someone who cares enough about it to try and fix it. Someone who is willing to give up their time, and in some situations their life, for a cause that is needed to be addressed. Whether it is an environmentalist, or human right lawyer. They have decided to not stop helping, not stop working, until they have found the solution, until the problem is fixed. That is a activist. The activists who helped me realize this are Malala Yousafzai, and Alejandra Ancheita. They both stood up for humans rights. Though Malala wanted school for kids, and Alejandra wanted better working conditions, they both put their life on the lines for others, not stopping no matter what. That is what activism is, not stopping when others do, not caring about the consequences, no matter what they are. I can be an activist by helping others when they need it. Raising money for cancer and other needs. If I have a problem, I can solve it if I put my mind to it.

Quotations and text features for my final newspaper really brought my piece to life. The quotes helped me bring out the importance of my facts. They also helped the readers know that the problem was big and understand Alejandra’s and Malala’s true impact when they read what people had to say about the problems. The pictures helped show what I was talking about. They could see Alejandra and the hope in her eyes. To make sure I didn’t plagiarised I said the website right next to the quote. Using quotes helps make your writing powerful, it takes your writing to a whole new level.

After we finished our unit, we had the amazing chance to skype the author Laurie Ann Thompson. Though we skyped with her after the unit, she helped us along the way by writing her book Be A Change Maker. In the book she talked about many teen activist that helped inspire us for the unit to come. The activist amazing stories helped us understand what activist were all about, and what we could do to help. Laurie also wrote a book about Emmanuel who lives in Africa and only has one leg. She wrote about his struggles and how he overcame them, how he beat all odds. This story showed us that we could do anything despite what we thought. It showed us with determination and hard work anything is possible. Then to make things even better, Laurie skyped with us and answered our many questions about her childhood, books, motivation, etc. Laurie Ann Thompson helped us understand what we could do to help change the world.
There is so many things that people can do to change the world, what can you do to help change the world? How can you help make the world a better place?

We just finished our unit on Research-Based Informational writing. With a focus on Teen Activism. We are now going to reflect on what we did in class and how we grew and learned from it.

Through the starting process we first learned the skillful note-taking. I learned many thing from note-taking. I learned that to make sure you have enough notes to start with. Make sure not to copy everything down. Make sure to put the information you learned into your own words. I also learned that to try to avoid own personal thoughts and just put down the facts. To stay on topic and not go and put something that is not related to the topic. One way of taking notes is boxes and bullets. There is also the web. Also you don’t need everything. With that you don’t need every single detail you just need the main parts but also you want the important details. Oh and also you want to have lots of facts and quotes

An activist is a person that has change and act to important things that have happened in the world. My activist I wrote about was Malala Yousafzai. From activism I learned many things. I learned that it can be hard and that a lot of people are struggling with different stuff and the people that are activist help with their or other peoples struggles to stand up and fight for the rights. They are amazing with how they helped and was brave. How I can be an activist is I can start with doing small things like donate money and start a garden, plant food and donate the food to the kitchens that help people that can’t afford to buy food like what Katie Stagliano did.

I finished my lucid press!!!!! I did my lucid press on Katie Stagliano. Katie has done many things and she started at age of 9. In my lucid press I have lots of quotes. I used quotes really well. I sited where I got the quote and who said the quote. Lots of my quotes were from the person I was doing. I mostly had lots of pictures. I did have captions for one of my text features, too. I also had quotes for one of my text features. Through my text and text features I made sure that everyone knew who Katie Stagliano is and what she has done.

We had opportunity to skype with the author, Laurie Ann Thompson. Laurie wrote the books Be a changemaker and Emmanuel’s Dream. She gave us really good advice like to make sure to find a topic to write about that interest you. She also said for note-taking or for just writing find what speaks to you and also that to get a book gong you have look deeper into the topic to make it really interesting. From the books she have made I learned that adding quotes can really pull someone into the story. From reading her books she really got me interested in to activism.
I had fun doing all these things. I especially like when we skyped with the author she gave lots of good advise talking with us and also just reading the book gave us some. She inspired me to want to make a difference through her book. I am so glad that we focused on activism. I think this was my favorite writing subject. And now I like to write informational writing more than before.

We just completed our unit on Research-Based Information Writing. Or focus was on Teen Activists. It is important to celebrate at the end, but also to reflect on our growth through the process.

I learned a lot through note-taking in this unit. I have learned that it’s important to use many resources and cite them. If we don’t do these things then we can be charged for plagiarism, and we might not get the correct information that we need. Something else I learned was that note-taking is a key part of the process, and a part that I really used. I used it a lot while I was drafting, because it was very easy for me to take the notes I had written and put them into a paragraph form that I could edit and correct. Note-taking had to be taken very fast, but correct and reasonably. We called this fast and furious note-taking.

The activist that I chose for my final project was Alejandra Ancheita. Alejandra is a human rights lawyer in Mexico, someone who is striving to make everyone equal. I learned a lot about her and about activism in general by researching her. When I was researching her I found many very cool things, but one that stuck out to me was how she never gave up. Her cause, as it would seem, was a losing one, or at least struggling. Alejandra’s goal is to make everyone in Mexico equal, which would be very hard considering the population. However, even if it seems hopeless she has never given up and no one expects her to soon. I am an activist already by doing service just in my community. I serve meals and help to tutor African-American immigrants that need help in school. I know that doing small things like this can help change people’s lives in ways you never expected. So if you just try something new then you could change the world too.

I learned to use quotes in this unit. I learned how to correctly format them to make it sound more authoritative and strengthen my paragraphs. Using quotes made my paper both more meaningful and powerful. Text features were also a way that I could highlight powerful things like quotes, and show quick facts that I wasn’t able to include in my paragraphs.

Talking to the author of “Be A Changemaker” and “Emmanuel’s Dream,” Laurie Ann Thompson, was really interesting. I was able to learn a lot. I thought it was really cool that there are people out there that do what we just did for a living. Talking with her made me realize that the people that do that for a living follow the same process as we do when they are writing these kinds of papers. I am grateful that we are learning this now, because we might be doing this for the rest of our lives, and if we start early it will keep getting easier.
I am really excited to continue writing informational pieces and can’t wait to use this process again!

We just finished our informational writing unit on teen activism. This will be a reflection.

Note-taking is one of the things I most despise when it comes to informational writing. I just want to sit down and write the piece, not caring if I get notes down or not, since I’m not as good as I want to be at taking notes. My notes have to be clean, organized, and pretty much perfect, otherwise I don’t want to write the piece, or the notes all together. Obviously that couldn’t happen. I learned to write fast and take down everything I thought was important to the subject, even if I would not use them later, and to ask myself questions to help me write. (Which I also despise.) If I take good notes, I have more evidence to tell the reader, so they will be more engaged. Note-taking is one of the most important things when it comes to information writing, so I have to take good notes and learn to live with it.

An activist is someone who helps the world. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small contribution, or one that will change the way we live forever. Kids, teens, adults, anyone can make a difference. We focused on teen activists, the ones that people say are making the most change. The teen activist I researched was Erik Finman, a 16-year-old boy who created programs that are helping people around the world. These two programs are Botangle, and Intern for a Day. Botangle is an online tutoring service, with many categories and experts on the site. Intern for a Day is a program where teens can literally be an intern for a day. This is helping kids get better educational experiences, better than the ones Erik had, and help people with startups, doing anything. Erik is pretty much training kids to become activists themselves. I, myself, honestly don’t know how I could be an activist. Sure, I like helping people, but I can’t see myself doing anything to change the world. Maybe I’ll just stick with helping here in Pewaukee.

Text features and quotes help the piece a lot when it comes to informational writing. It makes the reader, in my opinion, really get why you are writing this. If you use quotes, you are backing your information you said up with evidence, kind of like, “Hey. The dude I was researching said this awesome quote that totally relates back to the topic.” Then the reader is like, “Hey! I know what you’re talking about. That quote pulled it all together.” (Yeah, bad example, but that’s all I can think of on short notice.) Text features can give more information on the piece, and make the piece stronger. Text features, possibly graphs, definitions, bolded words, and italics can give the piece more authority, give more information on the topic, and show the reader you know what you’re doing. I used quotes to show more information on what I was saying, like when I was explaining when Erik met Alexis Ohanian, that he was very motivated, a very hard-worker, as a teen activist should be.

My “take away” from the Skype call with Laurie Ann Thompson, is that anyone can be a changemaker. It doesn’t matter if you’re an author, a student, a child, an adult, someone with a normal life, or someone with an extraordinary one. When she was a kid, Laurie wanted to be an activist, a changemaker. But she could never figure out how. Then, when she became an author, she became an activist. She inspired people, anyone who read her book, (including me) to be a changemaker. You can do it through writing, through organizations, through speeches, through anything. You just have to believe you can do it, and make that dream happen.

An activist can be anyone, even us. It doesn’t matter if we’re just writing about activists in our information writing unit, or if we are changing the world. This information writing unit has boosted me forward and taught me a lot, telling me that one day, I can change the world, too.

I learned quickly that If I didn’t have my notes down that it would be very hard to write and it would be quicker to write because you could just look at that and not keep looking back and forth through tabs when you have it right in your notebook. I can apply this to my future note taking skills by knowing that it wouldn’t take as much time to do the whole project and I could get it done faster and move on from there.

Activism was our main focus for this unit. An activist is a person that sometimes tries and goes out in the world and tries to find peace in the world. My activist was Craig Keilburger. He stood up and said that he thinks that child labor should be stopped in the world because he has a dream just like Dr. king did.I can be an activist today and in the future by standing up for what I believe in in the community.

We completed our final informational projects in “lucid press”,I used quotations and text features purposefully teach information in new and authoritative ways by saying direct quotes and giving credit and strong details that if I were the reader I would be sucked in right away because of how detailed I made my paragraphs.

We had the opportunity to skype with the author, Laurie Ann Thompson, who wrote be a change maker and emanuals dream. my “take away” was that you can never be too young or old to make a change in the world like Craig Kielburger. he started at the age of 12 and is still going strong.
I can continue to use all these strategies in future writing products and I hope that you can apply these methods to your writing as I am to.

We just finished our informational writing project. In this reflection I will be sharing what I learned about note taking, activism, writing with authority, and what I took away from a skype with the author Laurie Ann Thompson.

What I learned about note taking is to avoid having notes even two sentences long, you want to be short and sweet. I also learned to not write down everything and only write down the facts that have something to do with my subtopics. I also learned that having a friend compare his/her notes is great to make sure they are correct. Finally, I learned to put the facts into your own words, but don’t explain them with your own mind.

An activist is someone who stands up for a certain cause and helps that cause. My teen activist was actually a group of people called the Youth Ultimate Project. I learned that activism happens everywhere and I know this by researching an activist group who only operate in Cambodia. I know that I can be an activist in the future by: donating to worthy causes.

I used quotations to teach people about my topic by using one of them in each paragraph to add to me trying to turn the facts into a story. I used text features to teach people about my topic in new ways by having pictures on the pages so the reader knows what I mean by certain things.

My take away from the skype was to always try and find a connection to what you are reading so you can use that in your writing. I also learned that writing a book such as “Be a Changemaker” take a long time, ten years for Laurie Ann Thompson. Finally, I learned to always try and get the teen activist allow you to interview him/her.

I plan to use what I learned in all of my informational writing pieces to come.

I will be sharing about my informational-based writing, I worked on animal abandonment for my informational writing, And heres some of the things I learned.

What did I learn about note taking? I learned that if you write fast and furious that you get a lot more done and written down. I can apply this to future writing projects by, if I need to write fast because we only have a day to take notes I can already write fast and furious.

What does it mean to be an activist? I think being an activist means taking care of problems in the world, so-to-speak. You don’t have to completely solve the problem but you can help the problem in a way, like donating money to a humane society. I think that I could be an activist by donating money to charities and humane societies. I could also start or be in a club that helps solve problems in the world.

How did you use text features and quotes in your writing? I used quotes by putting them in my writing when necessary, and giving the author credit, and by putting important quotes not only in the story, but on the side of the paper as well, so it would stick out more and interest the reader by shocking them with a powerful quote. With text features I also made them stand out if you were to be reading it, you would know what was coming and what I was going to talk about in the paragraph, like subtopics or captions.

What was your take away from Skyping with Laurie Ann Thompson? My take away from the author was that she had some struggles with her writing, this showed us that everyone makes mistakes, no matter who you are, and everyone ‘stumbles.’ Reading the books by this author made me think of how amazing it must be to write books and get all this information, and get to meet new people. She also showed us, that if you try try try again you can always succeed.

This was just some of the things I learned. Another thing I learned through all of this, was that, If you don't have more that 15-20 facts or notes on one topic, then you shouldn't do a paragraph on it.

Our unit was based on Research-Based Informational Writing. Which was based on Teen Activists. I learned there are many teen activists even someone like you could be one too. A teen activist is someone who helps stop or helps something. Teen Activists are teens that help the world and make a difference. Along with the topic of Teen Activists. We made a Lucid Press document about a topic for some examples: Bullying, Drug Abuse, and Animal Abandonment.

I learned a lot about note-taking in this unit. The things I learned were to use your time wisely, write down where you found that fact, get as many notes as possible, the last thing I learned about note-taking was base your notes off of many different subtopics along with having enough notes for each subtopic. I found it easier to write down the website name for an example: thirty-two million people are bullied, stopbullying.org. That would help with time not going back to try and find it instead you would know where it came from and site the resource later. I learned subtopics are very important and you always need subtopics to get more detailed essays or stories, everything needs subtopics.

My activist was Malala Yousafzai I learned a lot from her this is what I learned. She is a teenage girl who lived in Pakistan. She was and still is a very brave girl, she had an attack by the group called the Taliban, who shot Malala when she was 16. But why would some random girl get shot? In Pakistan most girls have no rights to go to school, so Malala stood up for her rights to go to school when her school was shut down at the age of 12. She had a blog she pretended to be someone else so the Taliban wouldn’t know who was writing about girls having rights to go to school. The Taliban’s attackers jumped on the bus she was riding in and shot Malala which lead her to seventy-two hours of surgery in the U.K. Malala still stands up for her and other girls rights to go to school. She has a Malala Fund to help girls get to schools, and to end young marriage. I learned many things about Malala.

Quotations should be used whenever you say, type, or write something someone, website, or book has said. For an example: Research says in the book “I Am Malala” “I stand tall with pride not height, and stand up for those with quiet voices.” I would use quotes from websites and made sure to site where I found the information from. I used text features in my Informational Writing Projects in Lucid Press bibliography, pictures, underlining, and where to find the pages. You can be a teen activist by just helping a donation. Or helping stop things.

The skype was really fun. I was really surprised when she talked about how long it took to write a book she said it took 10 years to write a book. I was also surprised when she was talking about when she was younger and she always wanted to be a change maker. But never had the time, so she would donate to funds which let her know she was a small part in helping. To her that wasn’t enough so she began to write books about teenage change makers also known as Teen Activists. Another thing that surprised me about her was her friends convinced her she would be a good author. So she wrote a book for fun and it became very popular for that topic so she kept on writing.

Teen activists are a big affect on the world and I learned a lot from this unit. I learned everyone can help the environment, and make a change in the world. To help those in need and the animals too.

In this post i will be talking about my teen actium, and their struggles.I will be taking you through the steps of teen activism.I will be teaching you the fun stuff and the harder points of the teen action project.

Well you have to use a lot of not taking half of the time you have to note take. Its probably the most important besides your grades. It will apply in the future by it will be easyer because you know something about note taking. The project its self will be way easyer because if you have the right amount of notes the project itself will be easyer. Note taking is really important it will build up your knowledge in the future if you were doing bullying and you want to do it again you could look at your previous notes.

Actives means like child labor or bullying thats activism or like malala how she wanted for girls to go to school. My teen activis was bullying it is probably the hardest thing to go through at a kid i hope you dont get bullyed at your school.I learned that being a teen activist is hard you have to do some crazy things. For example malala got shot in the face by a tearest group and she didnt stop fighting for girls to go to school. How can i be a teen activist today?Well it will be hard but i would want to stop bullying thats what i did my topic on.If i ever saw a kid get pushed down on the playground i would help him up and tell a teacher.Well i used commas where they were needed i hope. One of my goals at the beginning of the year was to use exclamation marks commas and question marks where they are needed.I think lucid press was hard at first but then spencer helped me and i got it done in one day.Lucid press was different then the google presentation i think lucid press is a cool site.Normally i put a topic each slide but i put two subtopics on each slide which i thought was a good idea spencer also gave that idea to me.Thanks Spencer!

This author is an amazing author she told us “when you are researching think why you are doing this teen activist”.She is very inspiring to me she said lots of quotes that just made my day.She wrote the book emmanuel's dream Mrs reuter read that to us it was a good book i liked it alot. Our skype with Laurie Ann Thompson was FANTASTIC!She also wrote be a change maker i haven't got a chance to read that book yet but i bet it will be fenomenale. The author wanted to be a teen activist herself.

Note taking is hard. It takes lots of work, and takes a while. At first, I really didn’t care for notes. But then I realized that I need them to actually use in my piece. Like writing down good quotes, getting good info, and writing down ideas of how to start the intro and conclusion! It’s worth all the hard work of getting it done and doing it wright. It’s also important to have a good amount of notes on one of your sub-topic paragraphs.

My activist is Kelsey Juliana. She’s an environmental activist and she loves being one. An activist is a person who helps with world problems. Such as cancer, animal abandonment, and lots of other types of things. Activism is very thoughtful of people and it’s activist people in action. Also bullying is a HUGE activist place for people to be in.

I used it wisely. I think. I used a quote every other paragraph and I didn’t hesitate to add a little more detail than usual. Most of the time last year as a writer, I was like bump that stuff! Lets just get to writing it! Now I realize how big of a deal this is. Plus, it can also give the reader more info on what the paragraph is supposed to be about. It also is pretty easy to find quotes online. If it’s someone you're really into too, then it’s easy to remember your quote that you got.

I really liked how she said that you have to find a way in. I think that’s just telling the truth and if you want in on something, then find a way in! She also said a lot of other inspiring things. Plus, she really spoke to me and helped me with a lot of problems I have with my writing.

Today I am doing a Informational Writing Reflection on our last unit on “Teen Activists” I will be reflecting on the many things that I did throughout the unit of study.

I Learned many things about note taking but the most important thing is to write fast and only pick out the important details. I also learned to stay on the topic that am I doing my notes on and not start note taking on a random topic. I also learned that you have to compare your notes with people in your PLN because you could have different notes and one of those notes could be wrong.

An Activist is a person who does amazing things to help our world and cares for people other than him/her self. I did Craig Kielburger because I think that child labor is a horrible thing to do and should be stopped,Craig Kielburger had the same idea as me and started fighting child labor. I learned many things about being an Activist one thing was that you can help out at any age! Craig started at age 12 and look how far he has come! I can be an Activist by thinking about more than myself and start to change this world step by step.

I used text features to make my story look more organized and to help the reader know where everything is in my Lucid Press. I also bolded quotes so the reader knew how important they are and how good the message is to them. I also added pictures to give the reader a picture of what I am talking about and give them a brief sneak peek of what my paragraphs will be about.

I learned many things about that Skype but the most important thing that I learned was that a little change will go a long way and that anybody can be an activist and all they have to do is help out. I also think that the book “Emmanuel’s Dream” was very well written a I got a lot from is like believing in yourself and never giving up.

These were the many great things that I learned and took away from our unit of Informational Writing.

Here is some information on it!

What I learned about note taking.

Note taking is important because you need some resources to go back to when writing a paper. It’s also good to have a bunch of websites to be in 1 note book. You also need to know what what websites you used.

Activism

An activist is a person who wants to change something in the world. But it does not have to be in the world, it could be just in a county or a city.

Text features

Text features are used in writing to intrigue the reader in a piece of writing. I used a quote in my writing to reinforce something I’m trying to tell the reader.

Skype with author

We skyped with the author Laurie Ann Thompson. My experience from the skype was exciting. We asked questions about her writing. I asked “How many books do you plan to publish?” She replied with “As many as I can!” We also read a book that the author wrote “Emmanuel’s Dream.” It was about this one African boy born with only one leg. He then ends up riding a bike about 400 miles!
I learned a lot during this unit. I’m now going to take my new writing skills and use them for future uses.

In this padlet I am going to show . How I have grown as a 6th grade nonfiction writer. So far this year at Horizon Elementary.

I learned that note taking is extremely important in nonfiction writing. You have to take the right noted on your sub topics. Or you won't be able to write a story. Without useable notes. So if you are going to write a nonfiction story find your subtopics then get your facts. Also to site where you got your facts.

In learned that activist is a person or group that helps with a world crisis. By topic was bullying. And I am being an activist that helps with bullying. On my instagram MisterUnsafe. Every week I post two picture and two comment to help stop bullying.

For text features I used picture to show the audience what bullying would look like. They would be of course connected to the subtopic. But they would show a good meaning.

My take away is js being able to skype with Laurie Ann Thompson. She gave me useful info to help me be a writer. Like that I should read read read. Reading will give me a perspective on how some writers write. And one of her books. Emmanuels dream was amazing. She gave a good description how, Emmanuel showed people that having a disability. Makes them no different from normal people.

So this is what I have learned while writing an informational writing piece. And if I want to write a book about something. I will know what to do. And how to do it. Thanks to Mrs. Rauter, and Laurie Ann Thompson.

Our class has just finished our Informational Writing unit, focusing in on teen activists. The teen activists I did were Malala Yousafzai, who is a teen activist who stood up for girl’s education rights and Undercover Colors who made a nail polish to prevent people from drinking a drug slipped in their drink.

I learned that you have to take really good and detailed notes in Informational Writing because then you will not only have good information, but you will also have very well written paragraphs and information for your topic. You also want to take detailed notes because if you do take detailed notes then you will have evidence to back up the reasons why what you are saying is true. You also want to have good information because if you have good information then the information you have will make people think, and when someone is reading your informational writing you want to make them think. You want to make your audience think because if you make them think about the problem that is happening with a small fact you might get them thinking about how they could help prevent that problem from happening.

Activism is a person or teen taking charge in a world problem and trying to prevent that world problem from happening. Activism is also a person seeing a problem they want to stop and making the change they want to see in the world. My teen activists was Undercover Colors and they created a nail polish that helped prevent men and women from drinking a drink that has a drug that makes them lose their memory. I learned that the activists that are helping solve world problems today don’t just try to make a change. They put themselves out to the world and are not only trying to save one person, but are sacrificing themselves to whoever tries to stop them. I can be an activist by trying to prevent child labor, stopping animal abuse, raising money for ALS, and more, but even if I don’t become an activist I can always compare myself to other activists because not all activists start out with the best lives and what matters is who they help and how.

I used quotations and text features purposefully to teach information in an authoritative and new ways by finding things that the activists said to make my paper more powerful and to have more meaning to it. I also used quotations and text features purposefully to teach information in an authoritative and new way so I could teach my audience what someone had said or what a website said. I also used quotations and text features because if a website said something that was very powerful and there was no other way to put it I used the text and put it in quotations and cited the the website so people know I used powerful resources. I used my table of contents to tell the readers or audience what is the first subtopic and what subtopic was first, second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth. We also used pictures to show what we were talking about. Next to the pictures we were able to put captions next to them to show where they are, who they’re with, and what they’re doing.

My “take away” from reading Laurie Ann Thompson’s books Emmanuel’s Dream and Be a Changemaker is that the people she wrote about are not only important and powerful to her, but are very compelling and meaningful to the world. I think she wrote about these activists because she now knows that life isn’t just fun and games. She knows that life is all about trying to make the world a more safer and better place for people to be. I think that Laurie Ann Thompson is a very good writer when she writes about activists who are making changes to the world and are creating a better place for people living in the danger of our world. When we skyped with Laurie Ann Thompson I learned a lot about how to write better Informational Writing pieces and using information. One thing she taught us is that when we are writing about activism, we need to think to ourselves, “Why is this important to me?” She told us to think about this because if we think to ourselves why we want to write about a topic, and you find out why it is so important to you, then you can not only use your information, but you can explain to the readers (or audience) why it is important to you.
This writing unit has taught me more then I’ve ever known about activism. It taught me that even if I don’t change the world I can still make a difference in the world. It doesn’t matter what I do, who I do it with, or when I make a change, but what matters most is that I am making one. Being an activist is a challenging thing, and I hope that someday I can make a change.

I have learned lots on how to write and informational writing piece

I have learned a lot About skillfully note taking. that you have to take notes on the most important stuff not what there favorite color is. You also need to take lots of fast notes. but also good quality. Most important you can’t waste your your time otherwise you won’t have enough info about the thing or person. taking notes is important because you can get notes.

Being an activist is hard work because you have to keep up on how you can change something. You can’t just go for one day and say I can’t do it anymore because people depend on you. You have to be very selfless to be an activist. Why do you have to be selfless is because you are not doing this for yourself but you're doing it for other people.

You have to write with authority because you don’t want your reader to get bored and you really want them to feel like they are learning a lot. I think I did pretty well on my text features, I had no run on sentences.

My takeaway was that you should find a connection from your writing. that you should write with passion. If you want to write don’t stop. The good writers are the ones who write with a purpose. To take lots of notes when you are interviewing. I also learned about shorthand. Shorthand is where you don’t write the full word.

I have learned lots and I now Know how to write an informational writing price

Today I will be sharing my Research-Based Informational Writing with focusing on Teen Activism.

I learned about note taking that it can help you in future references. You can also use note taking a way of putting things into your own words like for instance, if you were came across a good website and you want to use some facts off of it, you don’t want to take things off of there and not put it into your own words, that would just be wrong. But here’s where note-taking comes in handy, you can read the words off of the website and put them into your own words.

Note-taking is a great way to keep all your facts organized, so that they wouldn’t be jumbled up and you have no idea what to do.

Being a activism is a good thing. Mostly because you know that you are doing a great thing for other people who are hurt in the world. But the real reason of being an activist is, risking your life for others even though you know your life would be in danger. Standing up for something that you believe in. My activist was Malala Yousafzai, I’ve never knew someone so dedicated to people, and there country like Malala is. She’s shown me what a true activist is. I’ve learned that activism is, standing up for what you believe in, and you feel that is right. Even today we can start by being teen activists and also going into the future, by standing up for things you believe in, helping others. You never know when someone is ready to become a teen activist.

In my Lucid Press I learned how to use quotations and text features purposefully to teach information in new and authoritative ways by knowing when to add a quotation and knowing when to not add quotations. Adding quotations can be confusing sometimes, knowing where to add them. Quotations are used at the beginning of a paragraph, or when someone else is talking. Text features are used to show reader’s what your talking about, like adding pictures to give readers a good visual image of what you are describing. Mostly it’s used to just have pictures so that you project doesn’t seem boring but that wouldn’t matter.

My take away from skyping with the author Laurie Ann Thompson felt like I was actually talking to the author in person. It was really cool when we got to ask her some questions, and she gave awesome feedback. My favorite part with skyping with the Laurie Ann was, here her stories of how she wanted to become a teen activist herself, and the struggles she faced while in the process of making a book. Reading the book “Emmanuel’s Dream” gave me the chance to be image what Emmanuel was going through, being a disabled kid must been very hard for Emmanuel.

Being able to experience the author who wrote “Emmanuel’s Dream” and “Be a changemaker” I thought it was awesome for me to actually see what she looked like, and witnessing her struggles and, stories about wanting to be a teen activist. I will never forget the time she told us her stories, and her struggles as writer.

We just finished our unit in teen activism. In this post I will be talking about the struggles that I went through, and the things that came fun and easy.I will be going through all of the steps on what we did and how we did it.

We started our journey out by finding our person in interest, and then we were off to our note-taking business. One thing that I learned about note taking was that you had to use more than one recourse to ensure that you have the right notes for later on. You also have to have the subtopics already know, so that you have an idea on what to research. This could be helpful because then, when you need to know how to organize notes, you can look back at the boxes and bullets structure to help. Note taking got kind of difficult at times, because some of the notes that I took were not accurate, so I had to go on to a bunch of other resources to figure out which one was right.

Well, I bet you are wondering what an activist is, and what it means to the world. Activism can be described as, someone that is doing something, or has done something, that had an impact on the world, or just a city. For example, Malala Yousafzai was an activist that was known throughout the whole world. Her duty, was to give rights to young girls, that don't have the proper education, to give the right them so they get farther in life. YOU could be an activist, even if you are a kid. Malala was a kid when she started to help. And don’t think that she is way smarter than you, believe in yourself, you could make a change!

In the informational writing unit, you really have to make sure that you are using a lot of text features. For example, pictures could help draw the reader in at the beginning so they will keep on reading. Also, writing with authority could help because you have to really put good words in, to make sure that the reader not only understands, but gets a feel on what struggles, the person is going through. One struggle along the process of putting text features in, was that you have to find out different words, for just the basics.

We got to skype with an author named Laurie Ann Thompson. This was a moment that was awesome because I have never actually talked to an author and get advice from them so that I can become a better writer. I got to ask her a question that said, “ What were some struggles that you went through during the drafting of the books?”. I also got to hear her story on how she wrote these books and when she started writing in general. Overall, that skype was really fun.

There were many things that I liked in this unit of Informational Writing, but there was a some struggles that I had to get through on the way. I think I did really well, overall. I was a long, fast and furious journey!

In writing we have been working on Informational writing, and I will be sharing my reflection on my writing success.

In writing first we started by taking notes, this is what about the importance of skillful note taking. We should write in bullet points, should use quotes, should write fast and furios. Also use multiple sources of information to help get facts straight. Avoid personal thoughts because your your own thoughts aren't usually facts.

An activist is someone or people who help others or animals. My first teen activist was Faye Carey, she helped re home stray dogs and helps in her community at the local shelters. For my last project on activism I choose a activism topic on animal abuse and different types of animal abuse. I can be activist today and in the future by help my family, animals, and other people by do nice things for them or helping out at a locally.

In writing we used quotes and other text features in Lucid Press to help teach about our topic. I think it is important to use quotes because it’s more likely to help inspire other activist to help and focus on one quote helps them focus on an important part when the quote is separated. Another text feature that's important is sometimes pictures to show parts from your writing to help people understand better and learn.

We skyped with author, Laurie Ann Thompson who wrote Be a Changemaker and Emmanuel’s Dream. My take away from this is to really connect with your person or why do you pick and relate to your story. Stop and think about what your writing. She wrote her books to help inspire kids to be activist, to inspire more activist.
Those are some of the writing techniques we learned to be successful writers.

Today I will be sharing my Informational Writing reflection. I will also show what I think about each section.

What I learned about the importance of skillful note-taking is that you need to be fast at jotting notes, don’t put every little detail, just the powerful and important things, like a quote. I also learned that you should write in bullet points, not in paragraphs. What I learned about note-taking that I can apply to future informational writing projects is that you should do the same things that you do for regular note-taking, like leaving out your opinion and only stating the things that relate to your topic and the things that will interest the reader.

To me, being an activist means that you make a change, either for the good or the bad. My activist was Divine Bradley, and he made a change for the good. What I learned about activism through this unit is that you don’t have to make a huge change, like Malala Yousafzai, or like Craig Kielburger. Sometimes it’s the little things that count. I can be an activist by doing the right thing. I am making a change by not changing something negatively.

I used quotations to quote Divine. I then used text features purposefully to teach informational writing in new and authoritative ways by adding subtopics to let the reader know what I was going to inform them about. I also used a table of contents to let the reader know what I was talking about.

What my “take away” from our Skype with Laurie Ann Thompson is that people are truly amazing. Take Emmanuel. He was born without a leg, and was thought cursed. Then, he hopped to and from school, there and back. He then made a ton of money biking through his homeland in Africa. My “take away” from reading the book from the author was that just because you’ve been looked upon with disgust and pity doesn’t mean that you should wallow down and be sad for yourself. Instead, you should take that as a reason to prove the persecutors’ wrong.
As we wrap up our Informational Writing unit, I am looking forward to our celebration!

Our class has just completed our research-based informational writing piece. Today I will share my reflection on the journey of writing this and share what went well and maybe didn’t go so well. This unit has been fun and I can’t wait til the next time we write a piece like this.

During the note taking process I learned a lot about taking notes that I knew would be interesting to the reader. I also learned many more things but a few of those things are, taking fast and furious notes because you only have a certain amount of time to get enough interesting notes to complete your writing piece. Another thing I learned is to make sure to site the website that you got your notes from and create a citation with them because otherwise thats plagiarizing and copying someone elses information.

An activist is someone who is trying to make a difference in the world. They do that by standing up for a serious problem that needs to be stopped. The teen activist I did was Malala Yousafzai, a girl standing up for girls rights to education and her tragic story of being shot in the head by the Taliban for standing up for girls education rights.I also did the activism topic, child labor. While researching this topic I found many interesting but disturbing facts about child labor. I couldn’t seeing myself being an activist, but if I could choose one problem in this world to try and put an end too it would probably be world hunger because there are so many children and adults in this world that die from starvation and that needs to come to an end.

Using quotations and text features are important while creating something (for example Lucid Press) because it shows the reader information that may be more appealing to them and let them know things that will be coming in the future (like the table of contents.) Quotations are use to use more authority while stating a direct quote usually from the activist or activists that involved with your topic.

Skyping author Laurie Ann Thompson was a great opportunity because I learned a lot of things about her and her writing journey and I realized that although you may not realize it at first, but there’s always a way to be a changemaker. She also shared with us the experience that she had of interviewing different activists and taking fast and furious notes on how they made a change to the world.

Overall in this unit of writing I have learned to take fast and furious notes, to use text features and quotations in your writing piece, and how you can make a change to the world. I can’t wait til the next time we get to write another piece like this.

I have learned lots and lots of stuff on Informational writing now I will show you my reflection.

I learned in note taking that you can’t take things word for word. Also to make sure that facts should be compelling and significant about that activist you're doing your topic on. Also You need to check more than one site for resources.

To be an activist is to help a problem around the world and making businesses to help that cause. My activist was Craig Kielburger and I learned that he didn’t know what child labor was until he was 12. I can be an activist by helping kids by the street and giving them a ride to where they’re or give them a couple dollars to get something to eat or drink.

I used quotations purposely by using them when I had one of Craigs quotes. I used text features by adding pictures and explaining what things were. I used that stuff with authoritative ways by not putting lots of pictures on one page.

When we were skyping my take away moment was when Laurie Ann Thompson said that she took ten years to write and publish 2 books. Another take away moment is when we read Emmanuel’s Dream because when we did the story was very sad and I would enjoy meeting Emmanuel.

In the end of this unit I really enjoyed writing about Alex Lin and Craig Kielburger also I look forward to writing on more teen activist.

In this Padlet Post I will be making a Informational Writing Reflection on my “Teen Activist” based unit.

We learned about about certain skills you can use while note taking that I can use in some of my future writing pieces one strategie was the skillful note taking. I learned how to have detailed notes. I also learned how not to take notes that I actually am going to use in my paragraphs. I had a lot of fun taking notes and eliminating the ones that I do not need! I think that this skill will definitely will be used in some of my future writing pieces.

Being an activist is being a good cause to society or having a strong opinion that you are willing to fight for. For example if you had a fundraiser to help the homeless, that is activism. You don’t need to do big things to be an activist you can do those small things that help your community and you can still be an activist! My activist was Divine Bradley. Divine Bradley did many great things to help his community. You can be an activist by, like I said helping your community or doing something big maybe! I learned that being an Activist means being a changemaker and that you need to really have the will and courage to help the cause!

I used quotations and text features very strategically by not having an overdose of quotes or text features but just having enough that it looks cool and it is not just pictures and quotes and 0% of facts

My First take away from the skype that we had was when Laurie Ann Thompson said that when you had writers block you could take a break and do something else until you had an idea. Also I like how in her books she put both sides of the character not just the part of what they did good or made a change.

Overall I had a really fun time taking notes making the Lucid Press frame and hearing other people’s pieces.

We just finished our research based informational writing unit for writing. Our researched based informational writing unit was so much fun because I love to get more information flowing in my mind and I also love to learn.

In this unit I learned so much about note taking. Something that I learned was that we have to take a ton of notes and state what websites we got our research from on a site called bibme. Another thing that I learned was that we have to take fast and furious notes and put them into your own words so you're not plagiarizing ideas and facts.

An activist is someone who makes a huge impact in the world. The teen activist topic that I chose was child labor. I know so much more than I used to know for this topic. Maybe one day I will be able to actually make a difference in everyones lives.

I think my growth in this unit was very significant. I learned so much and the best part was that I actually had a lot of fun learning new facts and reading new articles. When I first started this unit I thought oh great we have to research new things and we have to find a new person. After I met with Mrs. Reuter I was so amazed with all of the new things I can learn. Mrs. Reuter made learning so much fun and I had such a great learning experience.

We just completed our informational writing projects in Lucid Press. I used quotations in any one of my quotes and in all of my definitions. I also used text features in my writing because it shows where everything is and it would be very helpful like the table of contents and the glossary.

Laurie Ann Thompson is an amazing author. Skyping with Laurie Thompson was amazing, I can’t believe that I saw her face to face. I love her book Emmanuel's Dream, it is about a young boy who was born disabled and his father left him because he thought that their family couldn’t take care of him, but his mom thought differently. She gave him the courage to think past all of the negativity and all of the mean comments that the other boys and girls said about him. That’s why this is one of my favorite books because it teaches kids not to make fun but to except people.
In conclusion I think that Laurie Ann Thompson is an amazing author. I love reading her books and I am so excited to read her new book that is coming out soon.

We completed our Research-based info writing which was about teen activism. This was a really fascinating topic because many teen activists we researched on proved that adults are not the only one who can change the world kids can too.

I learned fast and furious note taking which can come in handy when you don't have much time to take notes when you are working on a project, homework, test ,etc .It can come handy in future careers too because journalists use it ,detectives , cops, etc.

An activist is a person who tries to eliminate a worldwide problem such as hunger,no safe water, deforestation, etc. My activism topic was about animal abandonment and learned this is no small topic ,it is huge because so many animals get abandoned every day .

I will try to be an activist by trying to help eliminate hunger because it is such a sad topic,”every 10 seconds a kid dies of hunger” United nations World food program claims .It is really painful, it tortures kids because hunger, and water are necessary substances to live.

I used pictures and quotes which gave flavour to my writing which is also necessary because you need to have a quote and a pic , few times I was confused where to attach the quote so instead of having the quote in my writing I used the pic version of it .

Skyping with Laurie Ann Thompson was really exciting because she encouraged us to be an activist and gave us some tips to be a better writer and a better person. She is an activist because she educated kids about these global problems such as,hunger, animal abandonment and deforestation. She also got emails and mails from kids who read this book and how they are helping their community ,city state ,country, continent, planet.
As i continue my writing journey these skills will be really valuable and useful, I will apply my skills or knowledge I learned in the future so i can get better grades.

My activist was Faye Cary she stands up for animal homelessness and what I learned about it was that you can do a lot of things to be an activist she made a facebook account to help animals get adopted easier there are many ways to help our society be the best it can be. We can also be activists now or in the future we might not think we have a lot of power as kids but we can be very influential and can help our society in many ways.

We used text features to help explain the point to the reader It also was very straight forward and helped give more information than what the paragraph would have given alone and also helped get the reader more intrigued with what the author had to say about their activist or activist topic.

We skyped the author Laurie Ann Thompson who wrote be a change maker and Emmanuel’s dream. I took a lot away from this author and what she said. Like to really connect to your person and not just write about them you really need to “know” them and to catch what they were trying to say and stand up for.
