The Armenians serving in the military had to turn in their weapons and were forced to do hard labor. Many died due to horrible working conditions and treatments. Armenian women, children, and elders were forced to move to deserts hundreds of miles away without food or water to modern day Syria. Those who survived the march were put into concentration camps. Many women were abducted into a lifetime of sexual trafficking. Tens and thousands of children were forced to be adopted into Muslim families and forced to convert to Islam. The Turkish government gathered groups of criminals that they called the "Special Organization" to raid Armenian homes, kill villagers, and rape women and girls.
