         <description><![CDATA[<div>The pressing issue of grave intolerance in the Caribbean is highlighted by the Caribbean Life post which states " some Muslim religious leaders claimed that the Haitian government was reluctant to recognize Islam, and that Muslims married in a religious ceremony did not receive the same government recognition accorded to Christians who married in the church."(Caribbean Life, 2013-2018)<br>The above snippet of the article <sub>(see sources)</sub>,  displays an example of grave intolerance in the Caribbean nation of Haiti; this lack of recognition of islamic marriages is a powerful depiction of a lack of acceptance of the Islamic rights and beliefs. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Due to slavery, the people of the Caribbean would have developed a significant amount of mistrust in people from extra-regional countries. However, one of the most important effects of slavery is the mistrust which would have been developed towards individuals who hold power and run the countries such as the government and groups such as CARICOM.<br>Mistrust of individuals in power can lead to acts of rebellion carried out by the people of the countries. <br>A great example of this is the attempted Coup of Trinidad And Tobago in the year 1990 on the 27th of July. The Jamaat Al Muslimeen group were protesting against economic and social conditions under the ANR government.<sub>(see the video below)</sub><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

The myriad causes of this mistrust include, the European's treatment of the neo-indians and the Africans who suffered at their hands. <br>Hence, the Caribbean people have faced major issues with mistrust which would have greatly affected and altered  their views on not only members of extra-regional countries but also their own Caribbean people.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Caribbean society today suffers from a high level of grave intolerance between its own people. <br>This issue is mainly portrayed through acts of racism by every race, which include but is not limited to, racist slurs and acts of violence towards people of different races. <br>According to Henry " In its simplest form, racism has three components: individual, systemic, and cultural or ideological. " (F. Henry, 1998)<br><br>Isues of racism is most high and prominent in the Caribbean; the  Article entitled 'Study: Race problems subtle in Caribbean: racial pro­fil­ing, dis­crim­i­na­tion ac­cept­ed' in the Guardian newspaper states that "The find­ings of the study, which looked at the Sit­u­a­tion of Peo­ple of African De­scent in the Amer­i­c­as,... though there was an ac­knowl­edge­ment of so­cial and cul­tur­al dif­fer­ences among races in the Caribbean, there still was anx­i­ety when it came to full and deep ac­cep­tance of those dif­fer­ences."(Guardian Media Newspaper, 2012)</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

This event spurred some enthusiasm in the Region for celebrating the excellence of Caribbean artistry."<sub>(see sources)<br></sub>Carifesta has allowed for the unity of all Caribbean nations to showcase their exceptional talents and love for the arts despite their historical differences .<br>Hence, the Caribbean is not characterized by grave intolerance and mistrust, but rather unity via a region-wide shared passion for the arts.<sub><br></sub><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Finally, Carnival is one of the most popular celebrations which promoted Caribbean unity in the region.<br>Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago is celebrated before the beginning of season of Lent. This event includes a myriad of parties and traditions which have been formed and influenced by ancestors of the Caribbean people. According to the National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago,  "From 1783 for half a century, the French developed their Carnival... to be a season of gay and elegant festivities...  dinners, balls, concerts and hunting parties... Africans started to participate in the festivities from 1833 and brought Canboulay"(NCCTT)<br>The aforementioned information by the NCCTT validates the fact that the enjoyable festivale of Carnival symbolizes the unity of the Caribbean people. <br><br></div>]]></description>

This aspect of Carnival is very important because it not only represents people embracing their history, it also represents the Caribbean people's acceptance of different cultures therefore achieving unity rather than intolerance.<br><br></div>]]></description>
