I learned that the Nazis had invaded the Soviet Union, by using Blitzkrieg tactics to defeat Soviet troops at the border. Hitler already has control over oil fields in Romania, and he still tries to seek for more oil to keep his war machine running. He also wants to cut off Allied oil from the Middle East but he first has to secure North Africa. Hitler also sent a tank based army division to strengthen the Italian army struggling against British in North Africa. And this impacts the war because Hitler is helping the Italian army against the British.

In this section I learned how Roosevelt and Churchill met and decided they needed to figure out a way to win the war in Europe, and they thought of a few strategies. Some of the strategies they thought of were invading France, and Britain could serve as a staging area for the massing troops and resources before the assault, direct attack on Italy, or launch the Allied offensive in North Africa, but Churchill wanted the Allies to strike first in North Africa. This impacts the war because Churchill and Roosevelt are planning how they will the war.

I learned that American soldiers fought in the war in a series of battles in Tunisia, they helped Allied armies launch their final offensive. The Allies crossed the Mediterranean into Sicily and Italy had a massive invasion. The Grand Council met and voted to restore the king and parliament to power. Mussolini resigned. Italy soon surrendered and declared war on Germany. Allied armies had taken a third of the Italian peninsula, but didn't get much father that year. This impacts the war because Allied got Italy to surrender by having a massive invasion.

I learned how the Soviet Union was on it's own and how Axis troops began to push father into the Soviet territory, Hitler split up his forces to seize the rest of Caucasus and to take Stalingrad. Germans set firebombs and Stalin told his troops not to retreat. This fighting continued for two months Then the Soviet Red Army began to send it's troops against the Nazi assault. Soon Soviet encircled the Germans. While Hitler insisted that his army fight to the death. Soon his army surrendered. The results of The Battle Of Stalingrad were over a million Soviet soldiers that died plus Germany lost 200,000 troops. Also the Germans retreated. This impacts the war because they are getting closer to Hitler.

This section taught me how the Allies prepared for an invasion by gathering more than 1.5 million troops, having 1,200 warships, 800 troop transport ships. 4,000 landing craft, 10,000 airplanes, and hundreds of tanks, that would all cross the English Channel by ship to Northern France. This impacts the war because this planning is the death of Hitler.

Allied planes and warships provided covering fire, and landing craft delivered about 50,000 soldiers and 1,500 tanks to five beaches. While German forces had well-entrenched guns, that provided a fierce resistance. However, Allied troops got control over 59-mile section of the Normandy coast. In July, American and German army began a fast sweep across France. And in August the Allies liberated Paris.

For this final section I discovered that Hitler wanted to burst through the lines where the Americans were the weakest. So he did, but Third army forced the Germans to withdraw. The Battle Of Bulge was the last German offensive. The Red Army had fought it's way into Germany. On April 30, Soviet soldiers were a half mile from Hitler's Berlin bunker, so Hitler killed himself. German forces had nothing left to do but surrender. On May 8 the war in Europe officially ended. And this has a big impact on the war because this is how everything ends for Hitler and his German forces.
