So after experimenting and having a terrible time figuring this out, including breaking the tape and worrying that would mess it up (see above), I read ahead and read the tip to fold the ends when you have to lay more tape and that helped tremendously!

This took about an hour and a half to complete, sadly! I found throughout this process that the LED and the connections with circuits were very finnicky and had to be just right to work. I will say that it helped greatly to fold over the ends of the tap and not try to turn it, because it would get too twisted.
Also, making sure to have the LED oriented correctly was crucial and something I discovered later than I probably should have.

This took great effort, and I am not happy with how the edges turned out. I struggled with making curves in the tape without it crinkling so much that it would no longer work. Overall though, I did eventually get it to light up without holding it myself and while the battery was clipped. Before that, it would not turn on without added help. I think that this was because the ends that were needing to connect were coming up slightly with my fan and just because they were slightly wrinkled.

When I looked at my materials for the brooch, I realized that I was one of the people who received a switch, but no fabric LED. I took needle nose pliers and did my best to curl the ends. I was not very good at it, and the curls were not neat, but I figured they would work.

I began sewing, and this was a lot harder than I thought it would be. The thread did want to fray, but I was able to eventually thread it through the tiny needle hole. As I was sewing I tried to keep the lines neat, but it had been so long since I was sewing that I messed up several times. Overall, it got along too far before I messed up that I did not feel it would be worth it to go back and fix it. I was not sure if I could fix it. However, everything was attached, and I immediately saw that it worked when I pressed the switch. It then began not working. I had to fix the threads, as they were all starting to mix and in doing so mix up the circuit.

After snipping the threads at the ends more and making sure none were mixing at all, I was able to get the light to switch on again when I pressed the button without it flickering! I really enjoyed the challenge of both of these projects, and I think they are great maker projects for students to explore how circuits work!
