When I was 6 my parents gave me this console which I found fascinating. It then evolved to a Sega console and when I was 9 my first PC and with it a whole new world. During my teen year I used the computer to chat with other people. During my years at University, it was all about graphic design and 3D modelling tools.

I used this resource at work on different occasions.

This is just one example: I’ve created two wheels based on our class reader with the vocabulary from different chapters. Sts had to spin the wheel and elicit a sentence about the book using the word they got.

Plan Ceibal

Vised by the MIT Urguay implemented a national program to narrow the differences in acces to technology: OLPC plan.

With this starting point, Plan Ceibal introduced innovative teaching models, like videoconferencing with English tutors abroad, offering new and widespead learning experiences.

In this book, Michel Serres explores the cultural and educational changes that the new technologies have brought upon our lives. He states that the acquisition of knowlwdge has changed and education must adapt to this rapid eolution so as to keep up with the new generations.

The title "Thumbelina" reflects the millennial habit of using their thumbs to navigate their devices.

Using Pictures and Timelines

AI in the Classroom

This resource explores the use of AI as an enhancment tool for English Language teachers. It highlights the importance of a good prompt, and the critical view the teacher should maintain when analyzing the results of material generated by AI. The classrrom activities are presented by age (YL, teens and adults). The material is designed in "cards" that contain the framework, possible prompt, title of the activity and age suitability.

StoryCorps

Story Corps is a site that contains real life stories of people around the world. It started with a recording booth at Grand Central Station in NYC. It is great to bring our students closer to real stories they can relate to use it as an authentic source of English.

Image Based Lesson Plans

This was one of my faourite resources. It is a triggering image to start a lesson plan.The material includes discussions, vocabulary, grammar, dialogues, folow ups, writing and personalization of the task and guided questions. It would work with older students but taking this as a sarting point the same idea can be adapted for younger kids. I love that it really reflects the power an image can have.

VUCA & BANI

These are concepts from the corporate world that intend to explain the rapid-changing world in which we live in it. Why do we care? Because schools belong to the same volatile world and teacers need to adapt and respond to it.

The VUCA concept originates from the U.S. Army War College in the 90´s. It means: volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguitiy.

BANI gos further into the emotional consecuences of VANI. It was coined in 2020 and means: brittle, anxiety, non linear and incomprehensible.

Netiquette is a made-up word from the words net and etiquette. Netiquette describes the rules of respectful conduc and appropriate communication on the internet.

The rules are about correct conduct, spelling, empathy and reading before asking, amongst others.

Techie or Luddite?

Nowadays used as a synonym for technophobe, the term "Luddite" comes from the British Industrial revolution, where a movement of the working class rioted and destroyed textile machines, thinking they would replace them. The uprisings began around 1811. The term comes from General Ludd, a mythical leader.

Safe search

We created a lesson to help students distinguish between a safe search site and one that is not. They were also guided in how to choose the safesearchkids site as the default page for their browsers. We would project side to side the lading page of a safe one and an invented one of adds, pop-ups, weird images and spelling mistakes. They would try and put into words what was wrong with the strange website.

Digital Tools for teachers

The book is a recount of other books referring to digital tool plus an exhaustive compilation of digital tools. The most useful part is how it's divided: per skill but also has other categories such as grammar, presentation tools and course creation. All the tools presented are free and only require signing in. Which is great to follow our student's work throughout the school year. At the beginning it has 12 lessons that tackle digital literacy and critical thinking. Then the book provides sites, apps and plugins for each category.
