Please create a visual timeline for important events in your family history project from the mid-19th century to the 1930s. In creating this timeline, attention should be paid to the intersections between macro-level events and the micro-level personal stories.

In 1842, the first of what would become a set of two wars were fought between the Chinese and British empires at the time. This war began over Chinese governmental restrictions on opium, a product extremely harmful for the Chinese population largely sold by British traders (who associated with/were members of the British crown). The Zau family and their business had to navigate this time extra cautiously, as they traded heavily with the British at this time. They began to consider trading opium at the time, particularly as the nation began to struggle due to internal fighting and imperialism.

The treaty of Nanking did not work out well for traders of the Canton province. Hong Kong lost many of the privileges it had prior to this treaty, and many other ports in China were opened up which competed with the city. Caught in the middle of this situation, as they were traders and there were children to care for, the Zau family decides to begin importing opium to sell.

The Punti-Hakka clan wars occurred in the Canton province of China, beginning in 1855 and ending with over a million deaths around 1867. The Yau family was affected by this event, as was everyone living in their province. These times of struggle lead to the family leaning farther into their less moral ventures of selling opium, in order to stay afloat by being able to pay people for safe passage. These were dark times for the family, their business, and for everyone involved.

In early 1867 Yuze Zau married his now wife Pui, and they had a son, Heyi Zau to continue the Zau family tree. The end of the Punti-Hakka clan wars at the same time as Heyi's birth was hope for a brighter future. Considering the difference in the state of trade from his grandfather's lifetime to his own, this hope was fleeting.
