Visualization helps with stress because by transferring yourself mentally it calms your body and mind. It distracts you with something that brings you joy. When you imagine yourself somewhere where you are happier and feel safe you clam yourself down with that feeling of safety.

Visualization is when you visualize something that helps you calm down. People often visualize a place that brings them peace. It is often a place they had vacationed in or dream of going. Some people even visualize being in a setting with characters of a tv show or movie .

Guided imagery goes all the way back to the 13th Century . Tibetan monks would imagine the Buddha curing them. Guided imagery was popularized by the 1979 book, "Getting well again". Many doctors and hospitals now use guided imagery . It may not directly help a medical condition, but it could be used to help with the side effects such as stress .

How to use guided imagery/ visualization in your day to say life.

Guided imagery is something that you can do in your day to day life whether you do it for stress or just for relaxation. Visualization can help you clear your head . The way you can do it day to day is by setting up a timer for around 5 to 10 minutes ( or however long you would like to visualize). Then you can close your eyes and slowly imagine yourself walking into your dream place of choice . You should use as much detail as possible and you can add on to the fantasy. You can stay for however long you're there.

Another way you can use it in your day to day life is if you are in school and stressed about something. You can take a deep breath and you don't have to close your eyes, but you can imagine yourself in your dream place for a few minuets until you are calm .
