I chose this picture collage of the Yeezy Collection by Kanye West to represent and show one of the most successful fashion items that took over within the recent years. This relates to the section on fashion where it talks about valuing change and how change is good (Thio, p. 409), this collection is different and unique from other fashion brands because of its baggy, distressed, muted color ways and overall a "homeless" appeal. It also fits in the category of fads where it enables people to get a comfortable sense of being a part of a group by imitating others (Thio, p. 410), because ever since it came out, everyone wants to get their hands on it and other clothing brands copies the collection.

Link:
Yeezy Shoes
Yeezy Clothing

A Global Analysis of Social Change (Tradition and Modernization):

I chose this travel video of Japan because its a perfect example showing where tradition meets the future. This relates to the section on "Tradition and Modernization" and how without its traditional culture, Japan would not have become an industrial giant and what positive impact tradition has on modernization is in Japan (Thio, p. 415).

Link:
Japan Travel Video

Functionalist Perspective: Gradual Change (Cyclical Theory):

I chose this clip-art because it's a perfect representation of the Cyclical Theory since its a person going in all different directions in a circle kind of like a cycle. This relates to the section about Cyclical Theory since its society that moves forward backward, up, and down in endless cycles (Thio, p. 418). Also how like any living thing, a culture went through a life cycle of birth, youth, maturity, old age, and death which is the basic idea that social change is cyclical and has influenced social science (Thio, p. 418).

Link:

Clipart

Conflict Perspective: Revolutionary Change

"Workers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains." - Karl Marx

I chose this quote because it best represents the conflict between two sharply opposed forces which are the capitalists and the workers. This quote is basically giving the workers a voice and motivation that if they work together they can overcome their sufferings and stand against what the capitalists are doing to them. This relates to section on the conflict perspective: revolutionary change when it talks about how the capitalists have the upper hand and by exploiting workers, capitalists fuel rage and resentment among workers and lead them to feel that they have nothing to gain from the system (Thio, p. 420).

Link:
Quote Picture

I chose this cartoon to show a simple example of how self perception works which i interpreted this as: the way we see things reflects who we are, and we see things based on our own beliefs. This relates to the section in the chapter where it talks about how human beings interpret the world around them and then act or interact with others in accordance with the interpretation and embedded in this is how the individuals see themselves and want others to see them as (Thio, p. 420).

Link:
Picture

I chose this cool infographic because its an easy to read timeline that shows the main examples of what has changed in the U.S. society over the years. This relates to the section on "How the US society has changed" where it talks about how the living standard has risen, people are better educated; the percentage of the US population graduating from college increased, and that Americans are healthier since their life expectancy has gone up (Thio, p. 422), which is included as well in this infographic.

Link:
Article/ Infographic

What the Future will be like:

I chose this video as my example of what the future will look like because it best fits what the chapter also states, and also some additional statistics. For example, the video states that the "population will increase to at least 9,6 billion," and "Caucasians will decline and minorities will reach at least 50% of the US population", which relates to the section in the chapter where it talks about how most new Americans will have come from foreign countries rather than having been native born and the pattern of social diversity will turn more nonwhite than white.(Thio, p. 423). Another example the video states is that "atleast 50% of jobs will be replaced by robots" and this relates to the section where it talks about computer-driven technologies beginning to dismantle the readitional industrial principle of mass production aaimed at mass society (Thio, p. 424).

Link:
Video
