She loves to give interesting facts to his little brother Ramo which makes Ramo see Karana as a role model.

Ramo: A small boy that can be quite foolish but always looks up to his sister Karana, in fact he's also a child of the chief of the tribe. ( he's also incredibly fast )

Chief Chowig : A independent and caring leader that will do anything to protect his tribe and will be open - minded with the ideas that his people may give him when facing trouble.

Captain Orlov : Captain Orlov is a tall Russian man that can be sketchy sometimes, he does not follow or can keep a promise just like how he couldn't keep his promise with Chief Chowing. He's selfish and greedy for money and does not care about the environment around him and will do anything to gain his goal ( although his goal is evil )

1: The Aleuts were going to arrive in the Coral Cove area and soon later create a base to hunt sea otters

2: Ramo and Karana were left behind by the ship. Year after year Karana waits for the ship to arrive. Soon later she realizes that the ship will never come back so she decided that she should move on and stay in the island for the rest of her life.

3: Karana doesn't like how the Aleuts were slowly destroying the environment in the island because they are killing animals, as said in the book the Aleuts are killing the sea otters by a huge amount and the tribe members are worried the sea otter population would die.

4: Also the tribe members are also worried if Captain Orlav wouldn't keep his part of the agreement and leave the island without exchanging any goods with the tribe. The author wants you to keep promises so you do not brake any trust with people like your friends, your family your teachers etc..

Karanna in this chapter describes the island, like how it looks like, how long and wide it is, how it looks like a fish and how the wind blows there.

Captain Orlov: Captain Orlov is a Russian. He's a very greedy man, he's very rude, he's also very dishonest. He is mainly greedy and selfish. He's honestly a evil person who GETS what he wants. He also wants to look good, and less embarrassing.

Chief Chowig: Chief Chowig is a very responsible and kind leader. He is also the father of Karana and Ramo. He represents the male leadership of the village, and he negotiates for his people with the Aleuts.

Chief Chowig - Chief Chowig thought that Captain Orlov would give them some of the pelts that they made using the sea otter's skin and that they would have paid him some money for letting Captain Orlov and his crew kill their sea otters, he also fought against Captain Orlov but got injured.

Captain Orlov - Captain Orlov turns out to be a liar and kills up nearly all of the sea otters on the island to use for making pelts, he also did not give half of the pelts they made to the villagers.

Ulape - Ulape was spying on Captain Orlov and his crew and kept telling Karana about what they were doing, Ulape also threw a rock at the Coral Cove.

Crew Members/ Aleuts - The Crew Members/ Aluets pulled out their knives and fought against the villagers.

Villagers - The Villagers were spying on Captain Orlov and his crew, they also fought against the Aleuts/ Crew members and Captain Orlov, The villagers talked about what Captain Orlov and his crew were doing.

Girls were told to do chores like cook food and gethering some food aswell, but the boys were told to get resources and hunt.

Ramo: Ramo was told to keep the abalones safe. He kept them safe for the entire chapter.

Ulape: Ulape was tasked with gathering abalones and gave it to Ramo for safekeeping.

Karana: Karana was also tasked on gathering abalones. She just observed Kimki because he was a new leader.

The conflict takes place when the Aleuts try to negotiate to the tribe of the island about these white bass fish that the tribe caught. It led to Chief Chowig telling them to hunt by themselves since they were hunters, with success as they partied through the night.

The other conflict in this chapter was that, the Ghalas-at tribe was worried that the captain Orlov would leave the island, without paying them for the destruction they caused, which was killing the otters, since they were worried captain Orlov was the type to break promises.
