1E. Broughton/Rowe. What Makes A Rainforest by Jackson Rowe

I find this biome very unique and I had a very good reason for choosing it. I find the different species of plants and animals very interesting and how over half of the plants and animals on the earth come from the rainforest. Also the climate is like no other ecosystem which helps different plants grow here. I also like how the whole biome is closed in and green, and it shows a certain part of the world without technology. The rainforest gets the most rain annually out of all of the biomes and this allows it to be home to thousands of different plants and animals.

Economic Value

One example of the rainforest's economic value is the lumber we get from it. It may seem bad and it is if we take too much wood, but if we cut down a controlled amount, it doesn't harm the forest as much and it is a booming industry. Another big economic value is tourism. Thousands of people visit rainforests each year to see the amazing plants and wildlife there. Lastly, many medicines can be made from the exotic plants there.
Below is a picture of the trees from above.

Abiotic Factors

An abiotic factor is any non-living parts of an ecosystem or habitat, and one of them is humidity. Humidity is the amount of water vapor that is in the air. In this area it is very humid because the trees trap the water vapor below them. This causes to make the air harder to breath. The next one is the sun. In this area, the ground level plants do not get much sunlight because the trees absorb almost all of it. This helps the trees grow very high, but the smaller plants have to adapt to this. Lastly, the amount of rainfall. In the rainforest there is more than 100 inches of rain a year. Now because of this it helps the plants that get little sunlight grow.
Below is some of the abiotic factors and pictures of it.

A biota is any plant or animal with in a particular region or habitat. An orangutan is a type of monkey that lives in these rainforests. They have developed a longer wingspan and with there strong arms they are able to swing around the trees. Another animal that lives in this area is a toucan. One adaptation it has made is that when any predator gets close to it, it makes a deafening noise to be able to scare it off. This proves helpful and makes it harder to catch. The last animal in this biome is the poison dart frog. This animals has very bright colors that are able to scare the creature off. The brighter the color, the more poisonous

Below is a picture of the poison dart frog.

The tropical rainforest is one of the most productive places in the entire world. Over half of the worlds plant and animals species come from the rainforest. This land is without winter, so all species are able to keep warm. The productivity of an area is based on the amount of biomass that the ecosystem produces. The rainforests is about 2,000 grams per square meters a year, which is the highest among all of the land ecosystems.

Below is a graph of all of the productivity

The rainforest is able to help the world in so many different ways. One way is the amount of oxygen in the world. The human body releases carbon dioxide which then plants take in. The plant uses the carbon dioxide to do photosynthesis and after releases oxygen. The trees in the rainforest make up a big chunk of the amount of oxygen that is in the world. Also trees can be cut down to be used as paper or lumber to be built for houses and public buildings. Lastly, there are so many rainforests that are near the equator that are shelter to many animals. Without this, they may die.

Below is a picture of a rainforest that proves to be used a shelter
