DIFFERENT FORMS OF ART 0A02 by María Estévez

Artists see the world very differently and they present it to us through their eyes. Try to find examples of similar works expressed in different ways.

This painting depicts the same situation of the death of Jean-Paul Marat, but the choices made in this painting change the meaning of the work entirely. The body of Marat looks as though it is in agony, and the ribs showing in his chest depict the unhealthiness of the pose. The woman standing there with knife is his assassin. She is not depicted in the other painting at all. The French people bursting into the door shed more light upon the outrage that Marat's death ignited.

This portrait is interesting because it depicts a man out of view painting himself on the canvas in front of him. We then learn that this is a self portrait of the artist! This means that Shuplyak is painting himself painting himself. Yet, Shuplyak in his own painting is creating his portrait blind (within the art itself) to represent his face on the canvas.

I'm not sure if we were supposed to choose from the same artist... I felt like this piece was different than the Nursing a Martini because unlike the 'NM' this speaks to a larger topic. The artists depicts a humorous view of The Last Supper with his famous olive being Jesus. I think this speaks to his taste in religion as well as boldness in creating a controversial piece for the public. Many would find this very offensive yet, I view it as clever

This screenprint by Banksy also shows an image of the Virgin Mary and Jesus. Here Mary is giving Jesus a bottle of what looks to be poison. I think it is interesting to see how different Banksy's art is compared to how images of Mary and Jesus are usually shown. Usually in his art Banksy critiques society so I think it is also interesting to think about what he might have been trying to convey here.
