A parent calls the librarian to say how much they appreciate the book. They are buying a copy for their home.  They add that their child really loves the library. 

The next year, another student checks out the book.  This time, the reaction is very different, and the parent follows the policy in effect at the school district to challenge the title being there.  

The process begins and there is no social media frenzy, no media sideshow, or school board drama.  However, the school librarian, who has worked at the district for only three years, and who identifies as gender non-binary, feels very uneasy as the process unfolds.
