Many people have mixed emotions about allowing technology usage/ educational game playing in the classroom. Do you think it is helpful to use this in a classroom, or does it disrupt the learning process, and why? Would you allow this in your class?

Karlee, this is a great question to ask future educators! I believe that I would allow for educational game playing in my classroom. Learning is something we want to be fun and educational for students. Games with the benefits of gaining knowledge and being entertaining are a win-win situation. Teachers experience extra time at the end of an assignment or even indoor recess, and that is when these educational games come in handy!

Technology Usage and Gaming in Class- Destiny Shelton

I think technology usage/educational game playing is helpful to use in a classroom because it gives the students a chance to use something that catches their attention and engages them into the learning. In this day and age, many students are growing up around technology, so they come more to responding to technology than writing with pencils and pens on paper. Playing educational games online can also help engage students by providing them with an interesting and fun way to involve them in their learning. Also, playing educational games online can be a great way for students to take a break from listening to lectures from the teachers, and it can also be used as an incentive for students to finish their actual classwork. I would allow this in my class because I want my students to be able to actively participate and have fun while they learn, and I believe technology, including online educational games, is a great way for students to participate and have fun.

I do not think games in the classroom affect learning, but I do believe all games need to be educational or have something to do with the concepts being taught. I would allow games in my class as a reward for good behavior, and maybe if the game pertains to their curriculum.

This is a great question, Karlee! I'd love to provide my own thoughts on this question. I personally believe that, like anything, games in the classroom can be super beneficial in moderation. You wouldn't want students to play during instructional times, but after all lessons have been given and assignments completed, it could provide students with some much needed relaxation and wind down time.

I believe that educational games in the classroom can sometimes keep students more engaged in learning than a traditional lesson will sometimes. Incorporating educational games in the classroom throughout the week allows students to feel like they are getting a "brain break" when they are actually still exercising their skills without realizing it.

They are constantly playing games on their tablets at home or playing games outside with their siblings. I think using games is like speaking your students language.
