First day was so interesting, informative and inspiring for me. I liked the Actionbound activity even if I can’t apply this activity to my crowded classes. I also liked to meet new people from different cities who have same problems with me.

Listening

1. I generally use both the course book materials and authentic materials together because sometimes I don’t always find the course book listening texts suitable, useful and meaningful for my students on different levels. I can’t even find a balance among my students and a course book isn’t supposed to be suitable for all the students in the country. So sometimes I use daily conversations, news, weather reports or different kinds of materials accordingly in the class and sometimes I make a few changes on the course book tasks, I simplify and differentiate the activities according to my students’ levels
2. The ideas about developing the listening skills have been useful today and they are very precious for me because they haven’t been adopted to us from the people in the higher position. They have been from my colleagues from different parts of the country and there are both experienced and young people and the ideas have been varied and informative for me. I have learned so many things about Active Listening, Importance of Giving Instructions, How to Change a Task and Differentiating the Listening Activities in my classes.

1. The most common problem is crowded classes and students’ lack of confidence, so we can’t use so many speaking activities in classes
2. Yes, I think some Web 2.0 tools will help me to make them speak the language without being frightened of making mistakes because they could record the video one more, again and again if they want to. Voki, Chatterpix were great. Paperslide is another activity that I could use in my crowded classes by making them groups so if they share the tasks, they will be busy with doing the job and they will not chat while I am away. Role-play is another nice activity for my students, I could use it by making them peers.

Reading

We chose the Text 1, we skipped all the activities on the book. We chose to show pictures to gain attention and ask them to find the common points and then, show a real postcard to students and ask them to find what they see on the postcard. What are the features? Then we asked them to say what we use now instead of postcard? We ask them to skim the text (email) Then we ask them to find the similarities and differences between them. Then for the gist, we ask them to answer the questions like; what is this email about? Who wrote this letter? etc. Then for detailed reading we ask them to work in pairs and prepare 7 True/ False questions together and ask these questions to the other pairs. Then for the post reading we ask them to write an email to their friends about their future plans.
2. I think I liked the idea of using web 2.0 tool as a post activity most. Especially preparing a poster digitally or saying their mottos in Chatterpix or Voki were great ideas

1. I think product writing is the most used one for my school because my students are always asking for me to provide a model to write and they feel themselves uncomfortable when they don’t have another example of a text. When they see the product, they can write better, that is the way they’ve gotten used to. Besides, they could learn to write simple paragraphs in this way easily. But process writing could be the most useful because they need to be motivated to write independently so that they could feel themselves as a real language learner not a student.
2. I think my colleagues would be interested in using Web 2.0 tools, post-its, group work and being active in writing like Posty Posty activity.

1. I think the stages of grammar were very clear for me, I was using freer activities in my lessons because I believed that there were so many controlled activities in my book before but I have learned that we could change some controlled activities and apply some more guided activities to the topic. I also learned teaching grammar in an implicit way is more appropriate for the students who need English later in their lives. They are more convenient and permanent for their learning process since they create the form by themselves.

Assessment and PDC

1. I think the biggest and most common problem related to assessment in local area is teachers’ and also students’ attitude to the assessment. People always regard the assessment as doing a test or giving marks so students think that it is a scary thing. We should at first teach that there is also a self assessment and students don’t need to worry about it. We need to give this idea to students in order them to decrease the anxiety, we all know that that makes teaching process worse. Teachers should apply the self assessment or use more constructive ways while assessing their students’ leaching process.
2. I think the greatest benefit of being in PDCs is collaborating together, sharing our problems and experiences and trying to find the solutions together with colleagues. I find it very useful for me to update my teaching style, to practice English in a high level and to be motivated by the other teachers who have accomplished really great achievements.
