Students: Many are Natives, but will exhibit some Immigrant characteristics like a lack in typing skill/speed (home-row concerns especially). Very familiar in applications use or how to hide their stuff from parents.
Colleagues: Unsure as to all teachers, but I think most are competent in being able to learn. I lean Native, with some Immigrant "accents."
ME: half & half - fine with learning new computer applications, even remember the days of bringing in Netscape article for (I guess better than AOL right) I do not always using media aspects (too busy to care about Pop culture besides my nerdy stuff, or posting about my life)

I loathe to categorize my colleagues into these two categories. I believe there are those who are born Digital Natives but don't necessarily incorporate tech into their courses often. There are also immigrants who are more successful than the natives because technology is valued and therefore pursued intentionally.
Most faculty are immigrants who refuse digital citizenship. I am an immigrant. My students are natives who don't know how to maximize tech to learn. They're video game natives.

But I never really cared much about technology growing up so I did not really spend time with it.
Colleagues: About 50/50
Students: Mostly digital natives

I was born before the iPod, but I watched and participated as new technologies came (was there for the first NES..what?????!!!!). So maybe I'm a digital native because I'm able to adapt to all that? The categories seem artificial. I'm not even sure how to answer this.

Students seem to be digital natives; however, with stuff like file organization and ethical/responsible use, awareness of digital footprint issues, etc....not sure.
Colleagues--so we run the gamut. I have now hired teachers I once taught, so not sure. Age doesn't seem to be an issue, though, because some of our early adopters are also pre-iPod types and the converse is also true that some of the ones who are resistant are new teachers. Seems like we (teachers, students, and I) are all digital immigrants--how we use technologies continues to change in terms of introduction of new tools; however, we seem to behave all of us like consumers of tech, not creators with tech.
