This was a quick video I took right before the performance. You can hear the different instruments practicing their parts throughout the video; from the rolling buzzes coming from the snare, to the long notes from the violins, and even the melodic tune that the flute is playing.

When I first read the program notes for the first piece, I was expecting something typically in the Western Music Cannon. The piece was Symphony No. 2: The Age of Anxiety composed by Leonard Bernstein performed by the University of North Texas Symphony Orchestra. The piece met my expectations of not being in the Western Art Music canon, but I was also expecting the piece to be somewhat dreary and slow. It was in fact, slow at first with melodies very softly in the flutes and clarinets. The tone felt like it was getting dark and sad, then suddenly the piano comes in with a beautiful, happy part changes the whole dynamic of the piece in the matter of a few measures. I was taken aback by the sudden mood change and as soon as I was processing that sound, percussion jumps in adding a much louder dynamic to the happiness of the sound. Overall the first piece was my favorite out of the two performed. The second piece was Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major, op.100 composed by Sergei Prokofiev. This piece did not have as much of a shift in sound compared to the first one. This piece stayed relatively slow but happy sounding. It had a very cheerful sound throughout.
