The Ewell's do not care about having a proper school education. All their lives, they have been messy, disorganized people with no care in the world. They do not even follow the county rules like the rest of Maycomb's citizens. With the little respect they show, the Ewell kids only go to school one day a year to get credit, they do not value reading, writing, math, or any other basic lessons. During this time, many people would farm or do other jobs that did not require schooling, so since the Ewell's did not need it, they deemed it unimportant.

Miss Caroline demonstrates how she believes she is the most qualified to teach Scout in general which implies that she feels anyone other than her is wrong if they try to teach Scout anything. This justifies the fact that she thinks properly educated people are ones who learn from their teacher rather than from others. The only type of education that appears to be important to her is whatever she is told to teach her students and what they can learn from her.

Atticus is an educated man, and he expects his children to get a good education as well. This is the reason he so badly wants Scout to feel comfortable at school. Along with academic intelligence, Atticus wants Scout to learn how to be a social person. He tells her that she can learn something cool to gain other students' interests, and hopefully become friends with them. Atticus' job as a lawyer requires academic and social intelligence, which is why he feels the need to encourage Scout and support her throughout her education.

This establishes that the Cunningham's represent a different form of education that other people in Maycomb seem to know about. It shows that even though they may not seem intelligent to people like Miss Caroline they can appear knowledgeable to people like Scout and Jem who do not have as much knowledge on crops like they do and are able to discuss with older adults like Atticus. They also carry themselves well towards other adults in town like Atticus since the younger generation of their family can have intellectual and intriguing conversations even with their age differences.

2. Another real world connection is types of school clubs and competitions. There are academic things like spelling bees, linguistic things mock trial, and there are also things like FFA where people deal with animals. These clubs show real life examples of the different types of intelligence people get from different types of education. In the book, different families value these different types of intelligence and ways of teaching.
3. Home school vs. in-person school is also a real world example. Scout felt like she could learn all she needed to at home, which is similar to home school nowadays. This way of schooling depends on preference, and the student's and parent's attitude towards in-person school.

This concludes that she understands Scout is human and that sometimes she has bad days which she learns of when she senses how Scout's day went.

1. One real world connection is the different subjects in school. Like for example in math the ability to organize a problem to solve them is a much different skill than what would be needed in another subject like English where creative thinking would be necessary instead to figure out the metaphorical or factual meanings of a author's story. The different subjects distribute different types of intelligence that are needed to succeed in the class. This connects to the story due to the fact that all of the characters bring a different type of intelligence needed to solve different types of problems in the story. Like for example when Calpurnia uses her common courtesy to teach Scout that she should have manners and be kind to any of her dinner guest which can differ from how Jem solves his problem of not getting in trouble by his father by lying and not telling him about what him, Scout, and Dill play during the summer.
