This quote is the first time she talks about the fire. This foreshadowing is rather interesting, this is because as an outside reader we know where they are about to go and to some extent the horrors that they will have to face. However to those who experienced her cries without prior knowledge of Auschwitz and other concentration camps she appeared to be mad.
