Some days, Gatsby would stand out on the dock and he would look out at the green light from Daisy's house. Gatsby's feelings about the green light had now changed in the moment with Daisy. This takes place after Gatsby's death and before Nick leaves West Egg. The symbol of the green light represents Gatsby's lover, Daisy. He's always seen reaching out at the green light across the deck because that is where Daisy lives. His main priority is to reunite with her and start where they left off five years ago. But things have changed and Daisy is unable to be with him because she has a family with Tom already. This symbol represents time because Gatsby uses the green light as a way to be with Daisy. When Gatsby bought his mansion he wanted it ti be across the bay where Daisy lived. In the novel, Gatsby would be seen at night looking out across that bay, staring at a green light. When he stares at the light he thinks about when he will finally get Daisy back. When Daisy finally meets up with Gatsby at Nick's house, Gatsby takes her to look at the green light. In that moment he feels that the light is gone, and he is finally with Daisy. She is conflicted on who to choose between, Tom or Gatsby. But she ultimately chooses Tom because she had already built a family and many memories with him in those five years that Gatsby missed. At first it seems like Gatsby is so close to getting Daisy back. But when Tom and Gatsby have a fight at the hotel it fades away. Tom exposed the illegal activities that Gatsby had been participating in and it made Gatsby snap. It scared Daisy.
