We need to design for a changing climate, in ways that challenge practices of deconstruction, recyclability and design for disassembly for the better. We need old and new buildings to withstand new climatic conditions for now and for the future. This includes predicting physical or functional changes throughout the building lifespan like for example enhancement in lighting, gaps, window operability, surface properties etc.

The design has to consider changes in different timespan and periods in order to be harmless, successful and frequented.

In the past time, we are required to design perfect and exquisite spaces, and most of them will remain unchanged once they are built. However, a few of them, such as warehouse buildings, are unexpectedly loved by people. Their spaces seem undesigned, but they are extremely flexible. They have completed the transformation of various functions from industrial buildings to cafes, exhibition halls, and offices. I believe this is no coincidence, as its spatial flexibility behind. As architects, we should imagine these possible changes and design more flexible spaces instead of rejecting changes and becoming prisoners of unchange.
