My analysis on feminism has already changed quite a bit since the fall semester has started. Before, even I was scared by the word "feminism." I as a woman had a mind set that "feminists" were woman who hated men and only wanted to see me to fail. So I would have to say my analysis of feminism now would be woman being just as powerful as men. Woman being able to say and do the same things as men and having either the same repercussions or the same gratitude. Feminism to me is getting rid of the double standards that woman deal with every single day. A very important part of feminism to me is woman being able to wear whatever they want without having to be sexualized, or having their abilities judged and under appreciated.

The music video "Ain't Nuthin But a She Thing" to me represents woman being able to do anything men can do. It shows woman being powerful and standing together. One of the messages from the video that stands out to me most is how the woman were "spicy" and still were accomplishing whatever it is that they wanted to.

My analysis on Social Construction of Gender

Social construction of gender I feel can be a very touchy subject in today's society and can often get people worked up. I believe this for a few reasons. One, there are people who truly believe that there is man and there is woman. They have different bodies and are meant to live old fashioned stereotypical lives. Two, people may get upset because they strongly believe in living whatever you want to live in whatever skin you're in. This subject sometimes upsets me because I firmly believe that anyone can wear whatever they want, play whatever "gender role" they want, or have whatever hobbies their heart desires despite "social norms." I do believe that my generation and generations after me will be so much more accepting of the life styles that people choose, and that make them happy.

People should be able to enjoy whatever strikes their interest and I believe we should stop trying to control this at such a young age.

This picture does a great job at explaining how we are "toilet trained" into having a misconception of who belongs in which bathroom. I feel you can take the bathroom that they're talking about in this article and compare it to our society.

My analysis on Privilege and Oppression

This topic is a topic that I personally find very important and I believe that there should be more importance placed on it. I do not think that I have felt oppressed but I do know that I am privileged. I understand that simply because of my race and skin color I automatically know that in this society I have it easier than a lot of other people. Because I am aware of this I will use my privilege to stand up for those who are oppressed. I know that the media tries to sway peoples outlooks on things, I know our politics aren't fair to certain races, and because I know all of this I will always look into things before passing judgement.

This picture is a perfect example of privilege and how it is portrayed in the media. The woman on the left is a black woman and is portrayed much different than the white male on the right. The woman on the left was arrested for letting her children play at a park unsupervised and Brock Turner was arrested for raping an unconscious woman. Any person who didn't know the Brock Turner story would more than likely look at these two pictures and assume the woman on the left committed a more serious crime than Turner.

My analysis on Intersectionality

I personally find this topic very interesting because before this class I had never heard the term intersectionality. Now knowing how this term plays into people's lives I find it very important and think that others need to be educated on it. Intersectionality is important because people need to realize that just because we face similar issues does not make them the SAME issues. Although I am a woman and that in itself may make things more difficult but the fact that I still am in good health, I am white, and educated my life may be easier than the woman who is sitting next to me. We as a society need to be aware of these things so that we can put our foot down and say no more. We especially as women need to realize that we all have struggles but many have worse. We need to be able to put ourselves in someone else's shoes and stand up for what is right no matter how difficult it may be. We need to educate ourselves on these social issues.

I like this picture of intersectionality because I believe that it helps show/explain where intersectionality falls in place in people's lives. For example take a black and a white woman. Yes both women face struggles simply being women in this society but the black women is likely to face more or worse struggles. The white woman may face struggles but they will not be as difficult due to her "white privilege."
