Dear Diary

I am thrown into a completely new environment ― high school. Everyone needs time to adapt to a new place, but I feel more nervous and worried than anyone else. Most of my old friends go to other schools. Besides, I am shy and have trouble making new friends. I wonder if I can survive high school. Perhaps the talk about making friends tomorrow may help. The poster on the bulletin board says anyone can make friends if they learn a few simple tips. I look forward to hearing what the invited speaker is going to say tomorrow. "Small talk" was the topic of the talk yesterday. I learned what small talk is and how it can be effectively used to make friends. This morning I tried out the speaker's tips on the girl sitting behind me. I boldly talked to her first. Her name was Jisu, and it turned out that she and I shared the same interest ― dancing. What a coincidence! She and I became friends in an instant. I realized that making friends is not that difficult. I am now less nervous and worried. I am sure that high school is going to be fun.

After lunch, I saw a lot of students looking at club posters on the bulletin board. I went closer, and then a boy approached me and introduced himself. His name was Minho, and he was a third-year student and president of the dance club. He demonstrated some hip-hop moves for everybody. He said that anyone, shy or outgoing, tall or short, is welcome to join the club. He gave me an application form, which I hesitatingly filled out. I am not so confident about my dancing, but I look forward to meeting students with the same interest. There was no class today, but I went to school because the dance club has practice every Saturday. The president of the club welcomed new members and asked everyone to take part in the upcoming talent show. The club was last year's first prize winner! We had practice for about two hours and then went out to lunch. The second- and third-year students threw a great welcome party for us. I ate the best tteokbokki that I had ever tasted. I am sure that joining a school club is another good way to make friends
