It took me long time adjust. All I carried with me is my desire to finish senior high school, and get a scholarship from the university as I enroll in college to become a licensed teacher. My routine back then was just school - dorm. On weekends, I always made sure to go home and be in the church with my family, and be involved in the ministries.

However, along the way, people at school started to treat me as their "mama" figure. From asking for school supplies, to asking help for notes and reviewers, they used to say, "naa sa bag ni Mama Ther." And I did not expect to carry this figure until college.

When I started to go to college as an education major, my crowd of classmates was different -- most of us are scholars, away from our hometown, and are passion-driven to be educators. Still, many of them call me, "Mama The."

Despite the different crowd, I still carried with me the same desire and burden -- to serve the Lord through the Christian Education ministry by being a teacher. This desire and burden turned out to be my purpose which I always go back to whenever I experience all the F marks, all the readings, all the paperwork. Up until now, I just always tell myself to put everything in my bag, and eventually, time will come, everything will be of its use.

I first entered in Ateneo de Davao when I was on my 11th grade. As someone coming from the province, studying in a huge university in a huge city changed the "Therese/ Bgirl" of Kapalong. I was known as someone who speaks her mind, and someone who is not afraid of standing on-stage, talking to the public, or mingle with others even to strangers. When I entered Ateneo, there was a hundred eighty-degree shift! From being an outspoken and outgoing person, I became too quiet and too reserved. When I entered Ateneo, I had this feeling of, "I don't belong here." Unlike others, I did not take a photo of my first day inside the university. I just took a selfie inside a taxi as I meet my mom to say, "Uli na ko Kapalong."

Among all the gifts I have nurtured, I believe that the value of being purpose-driven is the most important. This is because this helps provide direction of my learning journey in AdDU. Next to this are the importance of having the skill to make good decisions, the skill of leading and managing a group, the value of working smart, and the value of teamwork. These gifts made me feel ready to engage not only the professional world, but in the real world in general where I will encounter different types of people in various environments. These gifts help me how be human and how to be a Christian in dealing with the systems of this world.
