2. I think it was very hard for them they always had to put on a smile even if they didnt feel their best. They got called so many things and they just had to take it they couldnt speak back or else they’d be arrested due to the racism 
3. I think they need to wear a mask because if they were to speak up about their feelings and the way they feel they are being treated no one would really care and the police would arrest them and silence them 
4. People might wear masks in front of maybe children because they dont want the child to see what they are feeling or maybe us children hiding it from our parents. There are certain places where we should and shouldn’t wear a mask and sometimes we need to let our true feelings out 
5. They over come it by putting their feelings aside and just putting on a smile trying not to speak out on the real world. 4. I think it depends if you should hide you emotions or not. For example, if your not mad or sad, you can make the situation more positive. And if you share your emotions with someone you trust, it can be a relief.
5. People can overcome adversity by hiding their feelings to appear more confident and optimistic. Although slavery was abolished there was now discrimination and racism that African Americans were dealing with and still are dealing with. 
2. For Black Americans I imagine this time was almost as if they had to prove themselves to be able to live in society just like everyone else.
