Transportation for Heroes

The Transportation4Heroes program awards payment-free vehicles to combat-wounded veterans; Gold Star spouses whose loved one was killed-in-action. In addition to the vehicle, the recipient will receive 1-year of family and financial mentoring.

Requirements to Apply:

1. You must live within the special travel radius of the vehicle to qualify for it.

2. Must be a veteran wounded during combat (Purple Heart recipients given priority) or wounded during combat training from any American military conflict

3. Must be an unmarried Gold Star Spouse of a service member who was Killed-In-Action or killed during combat training

4. Must be honorably retired or separated from the military or within 90 days of discharging.

5. Must be able to obtain vehicle insurance.

6. Must not have more than one vehicle loan/lease per household.

Ignition Interlock Device Pilot Program

The pilot program applies to DUI offenders convicted of a DUI involving alcohol or a combination of alcohol and drugs, and whose offenses occur on or after January 1, 2019, through December 31, 2025, except for the following offenders:

First-time offenders whose violation did not involve drugs only, and did not result in injury.
Repeat offenders whose violation involved drugs only.
Offenders who were administratively suspended after their DUI arrest.
Offenders approved for an IID exemption.

If you receive Medi-Cal as a fee-for-service (FFS) member, you or a representative can email DHCSNMT@dhcs.ca.gov requesting assistance with coordinating transportation. Please do NOT include personal information in your first email. DHCS staff will reply with a secure email asking for information about the appointment.

NOTE: Members or their representatives can contact providers directly to schedule transportation if they have their contact information.

SANDAG Transportation

If they commute by carpool, transit, bike, or walking, they could register for SANDAG’s GRH program. In case of an emergency or vehicle breakdown, SANDAG reimburses up to $100 per ride, three times per year.

Qualifying emergencies include:

Personal or family emergency
Unexpected overtime
Carpool or vanpool ride unavailable due to unexpected schedule changes or vehicle breakdown
Bike problems, including a flat tire, mechanical failure, vandalism, or theft

Description:

FACT offers rides in San Diego County for seniors aged 60+, persons with disabilities, students, veterans, and other residents who need assistance to make essential trips for medical needs or grocery needs
To arrange for a ride, call between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday – Friday
Please have the name(s) of the rider(s) to be transported, the pick-up address and time, and specify if any rider uses a mobility device such as a wheelchair or scooter
Rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis
Call at least one day ahead, if possible, to arrange for a ride
