In this video by Sarah Harper, an administrator in early childhood, she discusses the process of formal observations that she does for the teachers within her school. She talked about how in this specific case she did not make the teacher off a point even though a child was not completely engaged. This idea brings in the discourse surrounding the idea that 100% engagement cannot always be achieved, and children deserve to have their off moments as well as teachers do.

In this instagram post from Janet Lansbury, she discusses the importance of remembering that even when a child is displaying certain emotions, we must always remember that they are still a child. This post made me think of the story you shared in class of the child who had a pair of scissors. In moments of fear it is not uncommon to jump to your gut reaction, which tends to be focused on the behavior. In her post, Janet discusses the importance of working through these moments of anger rather than reacting, or shaming them for said behaviors. It can be difficult in brief situations, however incredibly important for their learning of emotions.

In this Video, from Akidemy Preschool, we see many examples of how we can use the ideas of Materials and Aesthetic Practices in forms such as art provocations. These activities, are completely student led, and they have the freedom to create, and have access to the materials whenever they may need them. This school takes inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach, which we see throughout the different provocations present in the video. They are challenging the dominant narrative present throughout preschools in the United States, and work to give children the freedom in art and activities.

In this TikTok from Kennesaw Man Nature Preschool, we see their approach in schooling, which is done primarily through nature. In this specific scenario the children have been given walkie talkies to communicate with one another while exploring outdoors. We also see a short clip of the children, where they have their jumpers, rain boots, winters hats, and more, showing they are dressed for the environment. They each had a walkie talkie, which was attached to a lanyard around their neck, and had a code name that they used to communicate. This is the first time I have ever seen this used in any type of school setting, especially in a forest school, which I found to be incredible fascinating.

In the podcast Unruffled, hosted by Janet Lansbury with guest member Kisha Reid, they discuss the importance of play for young children. Both Reid and Lansbury are long time early childhood educators, parents, and scholars. The discussion centers around the pressures felt by parents to get their kids started in activities such as sports, instruments, reading and more, and why more and more often we see free play left out of the narrative. They discuss how beneficial it is to allow children the opportunities to play creatively even if others might not approve.

In the Podcast; Racially Just Schools, we hear from Host Dr. Terrance L. Green and Dr. Jeff Duncan Andrade, in an episode titled "Radically Rethinking the Foundations of Schooling". This entire podcast has completely changed the way I approach teaching, and classroom pedagogy. Specifically in this episode, I love the ways that that they are discussing the injustices that are intertwined within the foundations of schooling, and steps we have to take in order to dismantle them. They offer great anti oppressive steps we can take as educations, communities, and schools.
